One of my favourite memeories....attending a wedding ceremony in a small West Cork town in Ireland in 1999.... city based nurse surnamed Collins (eldest daughter of local cattle farmer).... married local butcher surnamed Collins (eldest son of local butcher)...the priest publicly stated 'we checked the register... "THEY ARE NOT RELATED."'....half the attendees burst out laughing, other half nodded their approval of the couple's good fortunr😅

O'Brien is a very common surname in Ireland from what I have read. Like O"Neill and others, it was one of the major ruling clans prior to the Norman conquest. Supposedly the O'Briens are descended from Brian Boru, the guy who kicked the Vikings out of Ireland in the early 11th century.
