My Dream Camera- 1 Year Later | (was Leica worth it?)

A year ago I purchased what I thought was my dream camera (the Leica Q-P)... but is it still that after using it for one year?

Leica really appeals to film shooters. As a film shooter, I love the simplicity and constraints that it brings to my photography. The simplicity allows me to focus on being creative. It slows me down. I take my time to think and compose shots. The constraints also force me to be creative and to make choices I wouldn’t have made if the camera had allowed me to do exactly what I wanted to do in that moment. I think Leica in general recreates a lot of this, on top of being beautiful cameras.

I finally picked up an OG Q in 2023 ha. They're down to under $2k if you get lucky and buy someone's old beater.

I swear, the photos coming out just look different than anything else. Even the Q2 looks different. Handles perfectly, absolutely perfect. Zone focus in the streets, snap to isolated F1.7 subject shots with AF a second later? YESSIR.

Definitely a forever body.

Concerning your love for the feeling of shooting with it - I think that's a pretty underestimated factor when it comes to camera choice. It's not only the specs and the features but also simply the feeling of shooting with a certain camera and how much that contributes to the amount of fun you have when shooting. In my opinion fun and enjoyment in photography (also videography) is one of the most important aspects, which shouldn't be ignored.
With that said - I gotta say that Leica really does look great and I imagine it to be really fun :D Oh and I've kinda got an eye on the Lumix S1 :)

I have had a Q since last summer, it’s fantastic, images it has given me worth the investment. I love it. It’s the start of my Leica journey.

I’ve got the Q2 and I love this camera. I will never get rid of it, Leica are built to last.

I was going to get the QP, but it was discontinued right when I was ready to buy it. SO... I got the Q2. It blows me away. I’ve shot everything from 8x10, 5x7, 4x5, 6x7cm, 6cmx6cm, 35mm over a host of makes, and the Q2 just brings me immense joy to hold, to shoot, to see actual bokeh in a wide lens. It’s a brilliant machine, and SO refined in looks and function.

One thing to keep in mind about Leica is that they hold value more than other camera brands so even though they cost so much, you can get a lot of it back when you sell. Other cameras depreciate much faster.

Every system comes with certain compromises and caters for different needs. My dream camera is the Leica M10, but I know that the limitations that it comes up with, which are part of the appealing, would mean that I miss some shots. That being said, I am ok with that. What matters, in the end, is that you enjoy the process and are happy with the camera that you´re using. Great video Evan! Keep up the good work and stay safe!

I have the Q2 for a year now and I just love it. The latest firmware update adds face tracking too. 47MP!! and weather sealing too :)

Love my Q2!!! I have 4 Fuji’s and use them when i need longer focal length but for me the Q2 is my fav plus the resolution is insane and allows me to crop when needed.
