Making a New Hammer Handle.

Sometimes the simplest projects can serve as the "therapy" that one needs at that time. It doesn't get much simpler than making this hammer handle out of a remnant of another handle. Hopefully Tim Sway would be proud! :) Hickory sure is some hard wood! To be honest this is the first time for me using a spoke shave of which I bought a few months ago with a gift certificate to an online woodworking place. I like it!
Very simply this project is taking a larger hammer handle that had broken on the end and using it to fashion a smaller hand for a smaller sledge hammer. The sledge hammer itself was saved from the trash.

Who is Tim Sway that I mentioned? :

Looks good but that sharp transition is very weak. It will be prone to breaking more easily. You want a gentle transition.

A woodworker named Pine. That's like an ice cream man named Cone.

Great job Chris. if you want to tighten that handle up more get a metal tube cut small inch section bevel grind outside edge, and drive into center of wood wedge. it forces the handle out in all directions german style. I've used that method for years and it really holds

Nice Job Chris! Hammer handles are fun to make. I broke my fave hammer handle s few weeks back, and made a replacement too.

Good work with the spoke shave.... another really fun tool to play about with!👌

Nothing wrong with scrounging, Chris. I recently replaced a broken Fiberglas shovel handle with one I scrounged off the curbside. Nice save on the hammer. -Dave

Great job brother I'm no wood working pro at all. Next time i need to do this I think I might can make it happen. the last time I needed to make a handle for a small hatchet i ended up welding a small pipe handle on it ha. Wood would have been much better
