NASA's 'Hidden Figures' awarded Congressional Gold Medal for groundbreaking work

A group of Black women known as the "Hidden Figures" who helped land the first American astronauts on the moon, received a long overdue honor for their incredible contributions—the Congressional Gold Medal. DavidMuir reports.

NASA and the astronauts literally put their lives in these ladies hands, one minor error and these guys would have never made it to the moon or back home again, these ladies were amazing working impossible calculations out of their head and a slide rule, they were the navigators and any other difficult task they were asked to do, congratulations for finally being recognized, long overdue!

It isn't by accident that they teach us about Helen Keller and Amelia Earhart in school but make no mention of women of any color.

I have bachelor's degrees in math and computer science, and soon a master's in data science. I can say right now that this are some seriously difficult and tedious calculations. I wouldn't dare do it without a computer! The fact that they could is AMAZING! Thank you women for your service to our country ❤

I did not any of this until I watched the movie. I am a white 🇨🇦 senior woman. In school we had to learn quite a bit about the USA and never were these brilliant women and their accomplishments mentioned. I was so touched by these ladies and what they did for America. They truly deserve this recognition and much more.

No one ever talks about a woman named Janet Guthrie who later became a name Indy Car, NASCAR, and sports car racer. She was involved clear back to the Mercury program, along with a group of women, who did a number of test programs to see if the original pilots could survive. More power to all of these ladies.

We don’t hear about people like this because we are always fed entertainment, majority know the names of singers, rappers, athletes, movies. The people with power decide what we should know and when it’s ok to know it.
