In my opinion it just depends on what you are going to use more like Crimson For burst dmg, and Shimenawa for normal and charged atks. But in the end play what you like:D. Good luck to everyone on there rolls!

Even though crimson witch has better numbers, shiminawa is very close. If you got Raiden is nice to have a character that can use all the shiminawa's pieces that you will end up getting while farming for emblem

if you are a new player who has hu tao, its more worth farming for shimenawa cause it came with the emblem set and its one of the most valuable artifacts since raiden, xingqiu, xiangling, ... can use them too

I just came to see if Shimenawa is viable for Hu Tao and I’m big relieved to see that it is. Thank you. So many characters need Emblem set and I went all in for Raiden C2 on her last banner so she needs more love. Glad I can gear up both my mains at same time now

pretty hard for me to replace shimenawa with crimson since I've attained almost perfect substats with it and I have c1 which fits the set

I prefer shim hu tao. With zhongli and yelan on fav weapons. It's easy to get more than 15 energy after I use hu tao burst. The CA dmg difference between the 3 set is pretty significant. Imo it makes up for the lesser burst dmg on shim

So with Shimenawa's you have a small drop in burst damage and a little delayed burst use, but huge boost in terms of CA damage.

I pulled Hu Tao to have a good pyro dps
And the fact I was farming Emblem so she could use it
That didn't age well
In the end, Hu Tao ended up becoming a placeholder for all my Future Yoimiya's artifs
Like man my poor Hu Tao has never seen the light of day since I got Yoimiya

Shimenawa for f2p, crimson domain is cursed. All of us have shimenawa and emblem, because that domain at yashiori is the best for many characters. I use 4p shimenawa and it saved me many resins. Crimson is better for vaporize but it's a pain to farm in that domain with lavawalker. Use Deathmatch or dragonsbane for low spenders. Good luck for pulls, enjoy lantern rite.

i think we need more information here. crimson definitely outdamages shim, however just not by much and depends on your build. I imagine you don't have IDENTICAL pieces for both sets. So i think showing how much EM you have on top of crit differences would make a bit of a difference in damage.

I reccomend going for shimenawa, because u get eosf in the process that many supports can use, but its really anoyying if u dont have c1 hutao because it will be so rare for u to use E and Q at the same time.

I recommend witch if u dont have c1 because u dont have to mind energy recharge and you can use E + Q almost everytime.

using the exact same artifact main and substats on a damage chart here are the damage difference i ended up having

Charge attack:
4pc shimenawa deals around %4-5 more damage per charge attack compared to crimson witch

Burst:
4pc crimson witch deals around %22-25 more damage on burst compared to shimenawa

Artifact main stats were HP% sands, Pyro goblet, CD circlet

Artifact substats were CR, CD, ATK%, EM

Hu Tao Stats were:
Level 90 with 9-9-9 talent levels
C0 - R1 Staff of Homa
31597 HP
117 EM
75 CR
341 CD


Overall Shimenawa HuTao is always a better choice.
Only option for Chrimson HuTao better is if you run her as a speedrun nuker at C6 with C4 Ayaka

IMO shim is better, since it’s less painful to farm for, and hu Taos kit focus more on her e rather than her q, though both is good for her, shim is more efficient in farming and gameplay

i gave all my shimenawa pieces to yoimiya cuz i like her playstyle more lol, I'll go back into emblem domain to farm pieces for the funeral director once i get yelan so its two birds in one stone

I would choose crimson over shimenawa as overall its better tho its not resin efficient but 100% of lava walker can get strong boxed so thats cool

Remember, hu tao main combo it's from her CA, not burst

If u want a burst nuke hutao go for crimson or if u want a charge attacking hutao(her original playstyle) go for shimenawa(nevertheless, both are rlly good on her)

Guys, as a hu tao main that played both set for over 6 months at this point. USE CRIMSON WITCH! It's incredle how the 15 energy drain fck's your gameplay. There are so many situations where you quickly want to burst with hu tao to get her hp back or finisch an enemie in the abyss what u simply can't and after using your birst your energy is often to low to proc the artifact's set so either u don't use her burst at all to keep the 100% uptime of the set or u use it and basically every 2nd rotation deals way less dmg. And also, this guy didn't show his stats, because from my testing the gap between them on her ca is way thinner then his testing with similar substats.

TLDR: Crimson is way more consistent and no downsides, while Shimenawa just have a lot of downsides (either no burts at all or less ca dmg every 2nd rotation)
And btw. you can Strongbox Crimson but not Shimenawa

there both great options for her, so I would just say: use the one that has better sub stats :)
