GH4 Fail with flash

When I add a Manual flash to the Panasonic GH4 the exposure preview i have on the lcd and eye piece just gives up and goes to a "Best exposure" view, and gives me indication as to what the actual exposure will be like other than a tiny exposure bar at the bottom of the screen. Cant figure out why this would be a feature, and is not the same with the Canon 5d mark 2 that i use for my other property photography work.

Go into your menu mode select custom/constant preview. Ensure you have it set to "Confirm the Effects of Aperture and Shutter Speed (Preview Mode)" It sounds as if the camera switches this off automatically when it detects the flash. Sounds stupid but it is really useful for shooting in a studio where the exposure is only made by the flash and you wouldn't be able to see anything on the LCD screen otherwise.

Maybe it has two different exposure compensation settings that switch automatically when the flash is connected?

Does the same thing happen in one of the auto exposure modes?

can any of you check to see if this also happens with your cameras, other brands other than panasonic as well

Semi educated guess (based on a quick reading of the manual) - Is "Constant Preview" turned on in the custom menu?

Did you ever resolve this issue? What would be your recommendation for a good flash for the GH4 for Real Estate photography? I would be using it with the new Olympus 7-14mm f2.8.

What settings do you have in the menu? It feels like it's a software problem as you ssay, so that would be the first place to check.

Possibly the camera changing preview settings, it can't preview what the shot would be with the flash added. It's for a studio setting as if your exposure was killing all ambient you would not be able to see anything in the viewfinder, i stead it just gives an average so you can see what you are doing - there should be a way to switch it around.

we're you using an iPhone 1 to film that? lol

but yeah that is annoying... maybe it's a simulated exposure? but still shouldn't happen

Can you please tell me if you have found a fix for this?

The Canon 700d does this in live view with the built in flash.

I just discovered this. This makes this camera useless for flash pictures I use it for video and wonted to give him another chance. Wander if all Lumix do that. I had GH1 2 and 3 but never like it for photos. It should be manual switch preview on/off does not metter if flash is on the camera. It does this even when flash is physically off. Sorry for letting my frustration out.
