New preprint data suggests prior COVID infection generates fantastic immunity. Can we talk about that? What it means for vaccines, mandates, and more.

I can’t tell you how refreshing you are. My back ground is Microbiology and have spent nearly 25 years helping research to fight infectious disease and I am shocked at how some of our medical leaders have thrown all of our knowledge away. Keep up the great work.

Finally!! a big platform like yours talks about natural immunity in a scientific and respectful way. Thank you!

"Bring dialog back ..." "Stop shaming people ..." This fits so many issues our country is going through.

thank you so much ! My bf and I were both hospitalized with covid AND pneumonia in Jan 2021 and we recovered fully because we are young and overall healthy. Our immunity saved us and now we have robust natural immunity- yet we are jerks cause we aren't vaccinated to most people. We know the true struggle of COVID and almost faced death. I am ALL FOR VACCINATIONS but WE HAD IT ALREADY! give us options and stop shaming us everyone!

Thank you for this. Ignoring or denying natural immunity drives me crazy, and you are so right about it just creating more suspicion and distrust.

Thank you for FINALLY SAYING IT. I can tell you from experience its true. My daughter and I had native strain covid and she was barely sick from that but I was very sick. She brought home delta from school and she and I both got a very mild cold/fever, nothing like native strain was for me with my pre-existing conditions. It barely touched me this time.

To me, the biggest policy implication of natural immunity is that we need to change our testing strategy. Instead of testing so much for virus presence, we should test more for immunity presence -- not just antibodies, but also T and B cells. We currently have a very incomplete picture of society's immunity levels.

I'm tired of immunity denialism, I don't understand why these hospitals don't allow their employees who don't want to get the vaccine to submit to an antibody test. The hospital I work for likely is going to be in a nursing shortage because of it. Surely it can't be worth it just to get "shots in arms" to be short nurses and then be further up a creek.

Question: Is it feasible/doable to give everyone a antibody test as a new strategy? And based on those results decide who to prioritize in giving a vaccine?
We're basically wasting precious vaccines on low risk people who already have natural Immunity by giving them two shots (+ a third booster shot), while in other countries they don't even have enough vaccines to help protect the elderly or persons with underlying diseases. This whole strategy is like being on a sinking ship and you don't want to share your bucket to someone who's trying to remove the water from the sinking ship, while also not using your bucket to help remove the water yourself. In the end we all drown. We need to rethink our strategy!

You are the only person giving me any amount of hope during this awful time. Thank you❤️

Now that you've talked about natural immunity, the CDC is probably gonna mention it roughly 5 or 6 months from now on their website.

Thank you. Our government would rather fire healthcare workers than recognize natural immunity even though we have a shortage here in Washington.

One thing worth mentioning:
That study re “96% of doctors being vaccinated” was a small sample of 301 participants headed by the AMA (who are in favor of mandates) and only 18% of Docs across the US are members.
While I have no doubt that a high percentage of doctors are indeed vaccinated, I’m not sure we can confidently use that statistic as is being touted in many places to convince those hesitant that they’re foolish.
I’d be curious to learn more accurate large scale stats.

Side note & more importantly: Thank you for validating those of us who have recovered from Covid & feel quite strongly about our immune capabilities & being forced/coerced/shamed into a medical procedure we don’t feel is totally necessary.

As some who got Covid 1 back in Jan 2020 and tested positive for Delta last month and beat without anything crazy happening. I really appreciate this information and you saying this. I just hope the establishment comes around.

While I appreciate your views on this and they are refreshing, what about all of the possible side effects people are getting from the vaccine itself?

Finally, it took you some time to get this out. The infection results in protective immunity against all the 28 epitopes/antigens of the virus and not only in the vascular system/blood but more importantly in the mucosa of the respiratory track, the site of entrance for the virus. Reinfection ( i.e. a second significant illness and not only a + PCR test ) is very rare in naturally infected persons as studies and observations show us.

OMG thank you for this! I literally asked this very question in you Locals group yesterday. And literally the next day, here’s the answer! Delivered in your usual rational, apolitical, and science-based fashion. Thank you so much!!

As someone who got covid in February and then 4 weeks later got the first Moderna dose, THANK YOU for this episode. I finally feel seen. The first dose after having covid was horrible. I got ALL the listed possible side effects, which weren't terrible, but then I also had two that were not on the list. I reported it all to VAERS but have seen no mention of those side effects anywhere else or heard anything more on if I should put myself through the second dose or if it really would kill me. No doctor or specialist has been able to advise me on this. So I put off getting the second dose and just felt guilty and like it was all for nothing. I saw articles that one dose MIGHT be enough, but here, you are saying that I'm not half-vaxxed, I'm actually an immunity superstar. Society has been saying I'm half-vaxxed the whole time and making me feel guilty, and I was dreading the fight going back to work because it would mean I'd have to get that second shot or talk my doctors into telling them my situation. So you are right, policies need to be made for people like me. I got no credit for HAVING covid and then a vaccine dose. I agree EVERYONE who hasn't had covid needs to get vaccinated, but if you've had covid, your body is primed. There's no way that the way my body fought that vaccine was for nothing.
