How to Add Social Media Icons to WordPress Menus

Do you want to add social media icons in your WordPress menus? While WordPress does not come with a built-in social media profile section, you can easily use your WordPress menus to add and display social icons on any widget-ready area in WordPress. In this video, we'll show you how to add social media icons to WordPress menus.

For this tutorial we will be using the Menu Image plugin found here:

With that plugin installed and activated, you can now go under Appearance, Menus to create your social media menu. We'll be creating a new menu by clicking the create a new menu link and naming it Social media.

We'll add a few custom links to our different social media profiles using the Custom Links section. With the plugin being active, you should now see a Menu image button that you can click to upload an image of your choice if you don't have an icon you want to use we have a list of free icon sets you can use here:

Now that you have an uploaded image you can select the image size, the plugin generates image sizes for you to select from. You can decide if you want the title visible with your icon or if you want to completely hide the text and only have the icon visible. Now when you visit your site, you can see the icons in your menu area instead of text.

P.S - Where did you get the social media icon downloads from because I went to google and did a search for social image icons, but when I click on the icon it's connected to a website... How was you able to download the icons without what I'm experiencing?

Hi, thank you for the vdeo, but, unfortunately, in the custom link, I cannot add an image to it, only the URL and the label are shown. Do you have any idea what could be the problem?

On the dropdown menu there was no way to set the image, even after I installed the Plugin, Menu Images. There was something that said I also had to install Font Awesome, so I downloaded that as well, but it's still not showing up. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? And thank you. Other than this little snag it was going swimmingly.

Hi gang, is there a way for my social media icons (FB and Twitter) to show up without needing a drop down menu on MOBILE? DESKTOP version is fine (thanks for the help!) but on MOBILE it shows up in a drop down menu? Could you help so that both icons just show up in the header like it does for mobile?

My dashboard is setup very different than this one. I remember this one and I loved it, but mine is different. I have to go through Customize and Active Site to get to Menus. I was able to create a new menu and add a custom link, but nowhere is there a 'Set Image' button. I activated the plugin as well. I'm trying to figure it out, but if you have any suggestions, then I'm all ears.
