Stuart Kauffman - Do General Principles Govern All Science?

preview_player
Показать описание
Are there 'general principles' that encompass all sciences, which have explanatory strength from physics to biology? Could such general principles even explain actions and activities beyond the physical and biological sciences, such as in psychology, sociology and economics? What would such commonalities mean about our world and about us?

Stuart Alan Kauffman is an American theoretical biologist and complex systems researcher who studies the origin of life on Earth.

Closer to Truth, hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn, presents the world’s greatest thinkers exploring humanity’s deepest questions. Discover fundamental issues of existence. Engage new and diverse ways of thinking. Appreciate intense debates. Share your own opinions. Seek your own answers.

i understand nothing but watching these videos give me the good feeling that there is some stuff going on in the universe

I missed something. I didn't hear what appeared to be a relevant answer to the question. Say... Something that starts with a yes or no, followed with an explanation.

He absolutely was speaking to a room of his peers only, in his mind. As an avid CTT viewer ...reasonably intelligent ( at minimum all regular viewers of this channel are. My hopeful prediction). A little more than average course work was needed to follow his explanations adequately. maybe I'm wrong...but this was hands down the highest comprehension wall for me to climb thus far. I couldn't climb it.lol. maybe I'll re watch when not late. maybe not..jeez :)

I’d say the principle of least action and Occam’s razor are basics in the universe.

Has Cambrian explosion been adequately explained or could this hypothesis help to explain?

I’ve subscribed Spotify for 3 years now for just to listen to Dr. Robert Kuhn’s 5000 interviews.
I dare you to ask Dr. Robert Kuhn about life and death, God and evil, and theory of everything and etc…

Maybe the universe is layers.
There are properties of quantum mechanics that unify to create stable structures that then behave in ways of classical mechanics. Then classical mechanics unifies to produce the mind. And humanity is in the infancy of mind development.

Unity to particles with properties

Unity to atoms with more properties

Unity to classical structure with more properties

Unity to mind (consciousness) with more properties

I think the question of this episode is really about the existence of the largest, master context within which everything exists and whether the inevitability of emergence is a part of it. I think the answer is yes and God if it exists is also within (not outside) of the master-context. This is why he got upset and decided to destroy the world: no matter how hard he tries to create good world the master-context spoils his efforts with merciless inevitability.

This is another good video. Unfortunately, many people can not see how general principles are working in our universe.

When Einstein made discoveries, he only had the base knowledge of the universe that was available at that time. The scientific method has progressed so much since then. General principles are the only reason that any of our experiences make sense. Our physical world is governed by the laws of physics. Our thoughts are governed by the laws of consciousness. It's all just general principles.

We talk about those principles in our videos:)

Only one fundamental, general, real, and material principle exists at the base of any level of the universal realm of the Universe and this is the "material cause and effect".
All the other "principles" are secondary to this.

Umm...what?
Im no genius. I'm a fan of this program and many others that are full of big brains communicating at a high level but this guy is like a book that you have to re-read entire paragraphs several times to comprehend. sheesh. He's even got Robert speechless.

One of the better interviews posted on this channel. Even though 73% of what Kauffman describes is baseless nonsense, I like the manner with which he approaches this complex conceptual problem.

This is very interesting, but the economics is completely stupid, mostly due to the scientist pretending he understands economics when he doesn't. Alberta specializes, yet it is rich. Why is this surprising? It's not. It's Ricardo.
