Lenovo Chromebook Duet in 2021. Is it worth it a year later?

It's been a whole year and a half since the Lenovo Chromebook Duet first made its debut and it's actually the first device I ever reviewed on this channel. Is it still worth it to get one in 2021 though? I talk about this and the other Chrome OS tablets in the market right now and how they compare to the Duet.

Still using my Lenovo Chromebook Duet as much as ever a year and a half later and I'm still torn on whether I want to upgrade it for something newer. Are you looking to upgrade your Duet or looking for a new Chrome OS tablet?

Just bought one on closeout from Walmart for $99! Crazy value - I hadn't even considered a chromebook before. Did on a whim - very impressed so far. Also amazing how well it found and connected to my android phone. Shares my Internet connection. All in all they have done a good job of making this a serviceable tablet. I do wish that it did a better job of transitioning from tablet to PC mode and would not mind constant buttons at the bottom. The battery life is unbelievable.

I run my Automotive repair shop off this little device and it has totally changed my way of using device's as a whole. With the introduction of the Duet and being a hybrid device, I now use my duet as a Scan tool for diagnosing cars (thanks to APK support). I can use one device to diagnose a car, Look up parts and labor times as well as type up invoices. Before the Duet I was using a laptop for invoices and parts look up's ect. While using a seperate tablet as my scan tool. This device has more than paid for itself in the 11 months I have been using it. Having the option to plug into a larger monitor which is mounted on my tool box gives me the ability to show my customer's what is going on with their vehicle. I feel with the 8 years worth of updates this device is worth it in 2021 for the people that will utilize Chrome OS and the APK support. I am not gonna lie I am patiently waiting for the Duet5 to hit shelves so I can get my hands on it. With the Second generation snap dragon chip I feel it's probably a little better value than the HP 11 X2 which has the first generation chip.

I still use my Chromebook Duet whenever I’m at work. If I’m not teaching, I prop the main body up on a stand and use it with a bluetooth mechanical keyboard and a bluetooth mouse for a desktop experience.

Even if it’s massively out-powered by my 5th-gen iPad Mini, let alone my M1 iPad Pro, the Duet still runs circles around the Windows 10 laptops being used at the four schools I teach at, and regardless of whether I use it as a laptop in the classroom or as a desktop in the staffroom, it’s still capable of getting positive attention.

Haay JoJo, I've been with my duet a little over a year now, I must say it is still my daily driver, it's not the fastest Chromebook but it is portable and reliable, I email, browse, shop, stream, video/YouTube, cast content to 65" fire tv as a monitor works very well, I use the uni hub with this Lenovo Chromebook duet, And honestly it has held up well and I plan to keep using it for a while still, I highly recommend this Duet to everyone, even as a second or third device, You can download movies or video, and get 4 to 6 hrs of offline playback of the downloads, Nobody ever mentions the fact that it is a 2in1, when I need tablet mode I simply flip the keyboard back and I'm in tablet mode, I never have detached the keyboard, less wear and tear on the hinge and pogo pins just saying, So again JoJo thank you for the great content as always stay safe everyone !!!

Using it since January 2021 and it is awesome for resolving the daily tasks, a very solid build, a good battery and a compact form factor. In addition a great OS + price!

To me it's still got the best "use case" of any Chromebook out there, and it gets full updates until June 2028 - only one other Chromebook I've researched will be updated longer, and only by a year. You can travel with it, type with it, Netflix with it (most budget Chromebooks don't have the superb high definition, IPS, full color range of the Duet and 10e). Admittedly AT HOME I don't use it much, * except for really secure activities like banking, because I have options with larger screens and keyboards, but that's just how I roll. That having been said, if I were starting today I would also consider the Asus clone with very, very similar specs but a half inch bigger screen; and even then, only if it matched the actual sales price. FWIW, I supplemented my Duet with a 10e education version - it went on sale for just $99 direct from Lenovo. It's got smaller storage (but equal RAM) and no included keyboard with trackpad, but it's great for Netflix, Prime, HBO Max and yes, I can use the touch screen for simple banking/credit card chores. Unlike the Duet, it is ruggedized (in anticipation of student abuse, I suppose) and as a result I feel safer using it outside its case than using the Duet that way. BTW the chipset is noticeably faster than the Chromebook Tab 10 that Acer and Asus both released a few years back. *I'm a hobbyist so I have more than a few devices. Chromebooks/ChromeTablets don't drive me nuts if I stow them away for a few months - I just log in with Guest mode (instead of my actual account) and force an immediate update to ChromeOS in settings which takes all of 4-5 MINUTES to install - in contrast, if I re-boot a Windows device, it's more like a half an hour to an hour of twiddling to bring it up to date and secure. Rapid updates are the neatest single feature of ChromeOS imho.

I've never used the Chromebook before but I bought this last summer and I still use it today. It's a little wonky when it comes to some apps like YouTube and I think it's probably a pinch too small for my office work. However I take it to court with me and I use it a lot in conjunction with my work and I really like the device. I'm going to pick up the duet 5 and use it for work and keep the old duet at the house. It does pretty good for the gaming that I do like streamine and emulation. My office uses Microsoft 365 and I thought I preferred the apps better but going to web apps requires some getting used to and I don't know how to get it into full-screen mode so having the browsers around all of my office apps eats up screen space. But I think if I have the duet 5 with the very large screen I could find out how to use the duet as a second screen and it will work out well

I love my Duet, had it close to a year at this point, thinking about the Duet 5 as a upgrade but not sure if I will like the OLED screen when it is about a year old, as most OLED technology still suffers from "burn in". Thankfully the Duet 5 is not having the availability issues that the duet had for it's first few months of availabity.

Last week, I ordered one from Best buy and I am really interesting to try it out in my university

I was a bit un sure if it can handle all my stuff (Since I am a Windows user, and never ever used ChromeOS because it is unavailable in my country), but all the reviews including yours were positive, so I make this decision.

Nice vid. I'm finally buying one today. Best Buy has 128GB version on sale for $229. For my needs it seems like a good choice.
