If a pro killer, merc, or black ops contractor became a decisive actor in any major conflict and made peace, he then would be without all the new weapons and also not get enough combat to pay his bills and pay his chums.

why is there never any suggestion in usa political chat, that democracy is necessary and how to get it?
instead, there is only passive recounting of the crimes of your masters.
i suppose the simple answer is that you are raised to submission. even slaves complain about the quality of the food.
democracy is possible. during the 'progressive era' [early 1900's] about half the states got some or all of the functions, except the vital one, of independence. and then the character of the people changed. perhaps the water was drugged?
