I have always loved this song. I still listen to it frequently, and can even remember the first time I heard it on the radio.

I never related to the lyrics because I never felt that way — not towards anyone. I don’t want anyone to hold onto me, I want them to let me go. 😅 When I listen to this song, it reminds me other people are not like me. That people — many people, most people — want to feel valued and want others to keep them in their lives, to protect them, be comforted in them.

That is so sweet, to me. It’s a delicate, innate, and intimate truth that isn’t acknowledged by so many people. Yet this song is an acknowledgement to it.

What a great artist you are that you moved someone who does not relate to your lyrical content with the power in your truth, voice, and spirit alone. So much, in fact, that after all this time he still listens to the same song, even though he still doesn’t relate 😂
