WELCOME TO WREXHAM Inspires Birmingham City Documentary

Wrexham AFC walked so everyone else could set up a documentary deal and run to the nearest streaming platform. Now Birmingham City—yes, that Birmingham City—is the latest club to jump on the "Hollywood meets lower-football" bandwagon, complete with Tom Brady, Amazon Prime cameras, and big cinematic energy.

Because what’s more original than copying Welcome to Wrexham?

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney turned a tiny Welsh club into global football royalty, picked up Emmys like corner flags, and proved that if you slap enough drone shots and emotional montages onto National league football, you’ve got streaming gold. Now Birmingham is following the script—literally.

Wrexham/Ryan/Rob are trailblazers for your sport! Revitalizing epic teams' spirit as they go and making a blueprint of how to do that! Well done..and not just to the players and the owners. No, no, no...the fans are included in that equation that makes the special quality that Wrexham is.

Did we all forget that if not for "Sunderland until I die" there would be no 'welcome to wrexham'...

A prediction: "Welcome to Wrexham" will be like the original "Lord Of The Rings".
Amazon's version will be like their "Rings Of Power" show. Not terrible, but not even close to the original, either.

🙄Wow, can't wait. Actually it turns out I can. Might be good and will find an audience, but I have zero interest. In a couple of years it will not only be 'super hero fatigue', we will be suffering from 'AFC docuseries fatigue', I fear. I get the plan to do a series on that Columbian football club owned by Eva Longoria and others(😂). Different league in a different part of the world, it has the potential to be interesting, but sorry another series about in the same league as Wrexham? Sounds like rip off to me. How about following a women's team? Or maybe a team in another country in a different league, sorry Amazon Prime needs to do better. Been saying that ever since I saw what they did with LOTR.

Could the rest of the world really listen to a Brummie accent and not fall asleep?

I'll be honest, I'm going to watch it, I want to see what the story will be like. I have a hard time believing it will be at the same level, mainly because they don't have the pulling power of R & R.

Just hope it's better than the one from burnley.

It will come down to the quality of the storytelling. It is a tougher lift for the Birmingham doc because the team is flying (well, other than the Vertu Trophy loss -- they need to tell that story!). A high quality storytelling team can do something with it; but it is overall less compelling than where the W2W story started. If Birmingham can find a unique angle, like W2W did by including supporter stories, it could work. We shall see ...
