As a teacher, homework feels like a waste of time, as hardly a third of my students ever complete it and it's not part of a student's grade. Yet, every year there is a small group of parents who request homework. I'm thinking of making it optional based on parent interest. At the grade-level I teach, parents are still necessary to help kids and manage their time for them to complete homework. But making 26 weekly homework packets and only ever getting about 6 back, I feel like my time is mostly being wasted. And the students who complete the homework regularly are mostly the high achievers who don't really need the extra practice.

I also wanted to add the homework could interfere with someone’s goals in life like being a famous YouTuber, or a star athlete. I haven’t really heard of videos talking about that, so I feel like this needed to be included.

My Religious Education & Philosophy teacher is staging a debate on whether or not homework is a good thing and I got put on the 'Pro-Homework' team along with the people who hate homework the most because she wants to challenge the others but knows that I'm the only one that can actually, convincingly argue for this so thx, this helped a lot :)

There is no denying that homework is a significant factor in improving a student's performance. However, some people claim that teachers should give students less homework. Before formulating a reasonable conclusion, the issue needs to be properly examined.

On the one hand, I believe that giving pupils less homework would reduce their stress levels. To be more specific, I can mention how current students' busy academic schedules leave little time for socializing or relaxing. Students do not have time to chat with their friends, to watch television and explore the world. They will be reserved when communicating with other people.

On the other hand, some who disagree with the above viewpoint believe that giving students extra assignments will improve their performance. They assume that homework will play a significant role in helping the students to increase their knowledge base. 

After carefully examining both points of view, I believe that homework is an essential part of a student's life. Nevertheless, the student's ability and psychological state should be taken into account when determining how much is to be provided.

I agree with most of these but two pros. First, the parents one. While for those with healthy family relationships, which is probably decreasing lets face it, can probably spend good time with kids in this retrospect, those adults can also spend time with their kids actually doing fun things. Parents who are stressed because of their own work don't want to help out their kids, they get stressed when their kid can't/won't do their homework because they don't understand it, and most adults these days have literally got NO CLUE when it comes to modern learning so they can't help their kid even if they wanted to, because they don't understand it themselves. Most of the time, it just makes both parties stressed.
The other is less screen time. Maybe before, a lot of work was on paper, and while this is bad for the environment, it did keep them offline. However, especially since covid, everything has gone online. A lot of homework nowadays is set on websites, and even if it is written on paper, the questions are most likely going to be online. For me, I probably spend more time online doing schoolwork than I actually would do having that time for myself

The cons outweigh the pros, they just let us be free. Homework is just overtime with no extra pay.

Standardized tests aren’t even really that important, same with college, and many skills learned in school are not important. Homework abolishes time management altogether in high school.
