Like I've mentioned on Twitter, this is an absolutely diabolical change that will ruin mine, and many other YouTuber's lives if it comes into fruition.

I naturally talk very fast, and do cut-commentary videos. Majority of my 400 videos now either have a tenth of their usual ad placements, or ZERO and it won't let me, because there's "no natural breakpoints". Meaning I physically cannot place mid roll ads. 90% of my revenue will be gone in May, and I might lose my house as a result.

This needs more exposure, because for creators like myself this is potentially the end for our monetisation stability.

I TESTED THIS ON 100 VIDEOS - WE ARE F**KED!

After spending the weekend testing nearly 100 videos that already have the new “disruptive” tool in place, I’ve found that 80% of manually placed mid-rolls are now flagged as disruptive. Worse, is well over 50% of those videos, there are zero alternative placements that the system considers acceptable anywhere in the videos.

When this change is applied retroactively across all existing videos, as YouTube has stated will happen in May, the revenue loss will be devastating.

For a decade, YouTube has advised creators to edit tightly and eliminate dead time - only to now punish those who followed that advice. Punish with a massive pay cut and the removal of years of work.

Beyond AdSense cuts, this will almost certainly reduce revenue from memberships (many of which offer ad-free versions of shows as a selling point) - and it could even impact YouTube Premium earnings.

While I understand the goal of improving viewer experience, this approach is deeply flawed. Mid-roll ads are critical to sustaining high-quality content on YouTube. Forcing automatic placement when creators have spent years editing their videos to have no natural breaks is a fundamental breach of trust between YouTube and its creators.

My biggest concern about this is that YouTube's automated ad placement in its current form is genuinely terrible. There has never been a situation ever where I've wanted viewers to see a midroll in the first ten minutes of a video, but YouTube automatically places two to three slots there - and even if only one of those actually runs an ad, it's still not a pleasant viewer experience. It's also flat-out broken for very long content (about 3-hour+ videos) as it will spam a huge cluster of ads right at the start then none later on in the video, rather than trying to space them out.

If you have automated ad placements running, I'd strongly suggest double-checking where it's placed them and manually remove the excessive ones.

This change is horrible! YouTube does not recognize where "natural breaks" are. For a lot of my videos it is saying that it can't find any natural breaks in the video to put ads. I guess this means that there won't be any mid roll ads in some of my videos anymore? Plus the process to manually go through 200+ of my videos to try to relocate the ads is extremely time consuming. Then it's pending review once I make the change, so I guess I will just have to go through the process over and over again to actually see where the mid roll ads will work. This was poorly thought out and will end up reducing ad revenue for a lot of creators and for YouTube as a whole. Extremely disappointed in this change.

I manually place one midroll ad per long video just so my viewers aren't r*ped by ads. This is a horrible policy for YouTube... especially for creators who actually care about their viewers' experience.

How about those nasty mid-roll ads that are put on a meditation video? When you aren't monetized? Which you have no control over because you aren't monetized. Which drives users away...making it harder to grow a following, so you can get monetized and have control over ad placement. Anyone else seeing the catch-22 situation here?

Larger channels have this control AND get paid, along with other advantages over small channels. This issue puts small channels at yet another disadvantage. Even my own sister left a video because of ads in the middle of a relaxing guided meditation. One other viewer stated she was leaving because of that. How many have left and never said anything? No doubt there must be some. Yes, my channel is growing, but how much is this issue slowing it down??? I wrote to YouTube. It's been well over a week with no reply or change.

YouTube's current automatic placement of mid-roll ads is TERRIBLE. It'll have to be a massive improvement before I quit placing them myself

I feel this has already happened. Way more ads now and they are in the natural spots that they should be. If they are going to put even more ads, it’s going to be annoying to watch YouTube in general.

Just so you all know, from my understanding the POINT of mid roll ads BESIDES generating additional ad revenue is a big push toward youtube premium which gives you an ad free watching experience. They figure that for $13 a viewer for premium that can pay out revenue which actually I believe is more than a generic viewer's ad revenue they generate for watching videos. I GET it but I don't like it either and I have close to 16k subs.

Funny thing about this is that I don’t feel like it will matter as much to the viewer anymore because it seems like ALMOST every viewer actually has their own channel they are trying to grow. So we kind of all get it. And we expect those ads.

I’m curious though, does anyone know how many daily VIEWERS are on YouTube as opposed to Channels?

Creators should schedule midroll ads where they know that it makes sense for their content/channels. Do no allow YouTube to do it themselves. For us who schedule midroll ads at least six minutes apart, maybe they can play two ads back-to-back.

YouTube & other social media platforms are now becoming the normal TV we escaped years ago
Can’t skip ads etc, thou I’ve got YouTube premium, but even paying YT the algorithm still dislikes my content 😂😂😂
