Larkin Poe on Audiotree Live (Full Session)

Rebecca and Megan Lovell formed the southern roots rock duo Larkin Poe in 2010 after the disbandment of their americana/bluegrass project "the Lovell Sisters". As Larkin Poe, the duo wield guitar and lap steel with ferocity, belting out vocal lines that match the intensity of this aggressive instrumentation. They're born stars whose experience collaborating with Elvis Costello, Conor Oberst and T Bone Burnett has given the sisters full control of every stage on which they perform. Check out the live performance by Larkin Poe on Audiotree Live.

This is real American roots rock at it's best. The lead singer is fantastic, grouling deep voice that's feminine but with a rough edge and a huge range that's always on key even without autotune. Her guitar playing is straight ahead rocking, almost like Dick Dale in spirit.. But the slide player is truly amazing, at times she has the perfect restraint of Ry Cooder, and then the total abandonment of typical slide lines with wild spaced out riffs that build up in the background, coupled with the bluesy lines of Robert Johnson, and the melodic tones of Goerge Harrison, all just blasted out her amp with every note in absolute perfection.

I once had one of those lap slides. A Rickenbacher 1940ish. David Lindly looked at it to buy but passed. They are loud and fun. Had slotted screws cause Philips weren't invented yet. She plays better than I ever could. What a super sounding band. My new favs!

I'm impressed within the first minute by your strength Rebecca lifting a Fender Twin Reverb, not a light amplifier! It appears to be a 1968 reissue with the old Leo Fender pre-CBS circuitry. I realize this is from 2017, but admire musicians who act as their own roadies. Beyond that your music always surprises and superb. Nice to hear you both being interviewed to hear the people behind this fabulous music.

Rebecca is a great singer, guitar and mandolin player, and she is also beautiful and full of life, Meghan is quietly sexy, and plays the best slide guitar I have ever heard! The two of them with their southern blues roots and amazing to see!

Funny how Rebecca is kinda the front of the band in terms of talking and singing the most, but Megan's slide is life itself. So good. No "fifty different guitars". One Rickenbacker, and it wails.
