He withdraw from the ICC because as a lawyer, he himself knows what he did was unlawful and it will hunt him one day. He thought that was enough to keep the ICC away.
But instead of shutting his trap, he kept on challenging the ICC time and time again. Not only that, he and his family keep on aggressively agitating the one person who was keeping the ICC from getting to him, they forgot who is in power right now.
They made threats and just threated it as a joke, not knowing that the person they were targeting doesn't have the same sense of humor as them.
Though it can be seen as a political move by the admin, but they used proper due process.
They can only blame themselves for their arrogance, they had it coming.
