Put a coffee filter in the pot before you fill it with seed starting mix. When you water, the filter will allow the water to drain as well as prevent soil from washing out of the pot's drainage holes.

1. Don’t use soil from your garden: buy potting plant mix
2. Don’t plant your seeds too deep
3. Label your seeds
4. Not enough or too much water
5. Not enough overhead light. Get a grow light for indoors.
6. Don’t give up!

I grew pepper seedlings from the seeds inside a bell pepper and I put them in garden soil in the container you get mushrooms in when you buy them from the store. I kept that in my greenhouse and they are gorgeous. A beautiful green and doing so well.

One year I found your videos mid July and started gardening. It was really late in the year but I followed your tips, started from seed, and grew 5 huge tomatoes on my balcony in a container! This year I live at a house and there is so much room for a garden. I'm gonna get started early start this time - so excited for a proper go this time!

The best part of growing from seed is you can grow varieties you won't find for sale in the garden centre, plus you save a fortune over buying the plants.

I use regular outside dirt to start my seeding. They grow fine. I live at Buffalo NY. I use grow lights. I also use my goldfish tank water to fertilize my plants.

To help your seedlings grow stronger, be better prepared for transplanting and to cut back on acclimating time place a small aucilating fan on low to blow slightly on your seedlings as they grow.

If you re-use plant pots, make sure that you sterilise them first as you could transfer bacteria to the new plant’s

I am growing vegetable plants from seeds for the first time. My husband built me a raised garden bed on wheels, as the only good sun is on my concrete driveway. You provided great tips that I intend to incorporate in my endeavor. Thank you!

Thank you for this! We move into our first home in a few weeks and there’s a ton of garden space. I’m a lifelong apartment dweller so I had no clue what to do. I have two trays started now!
I appreciate your delivery. Clear but in-depth. Thank you thank you.

Out of so many videos out there for the starters, this one is the absolute best. It covers everything in good detail in just one video. Plus the video is excellently made. Thank you for sharing this knowledge and all the links.

This just got more and more expensive as i went along. Plus today it is not possible to go out to shop here in WA. I did get some excellent ideas however and will use what I have. Thanks for a clear explanation.

Hi Kim. I have pepper seedlings already well along the way. I planted my tomatoes today. All are heirloom varieties. I am experimenting to see which heirlooms will do well in Louisiana zone 8. Last year some the heirlooms I grew did better than the hybrids. I have never enjoyed gardening more that when I began starting my own seeds. It opens a huge world of possibilities as to which varieties you can grow, instead of depending on the big nurseries who stock the stores with only a few varieties. Thank you for encouraging and teaching people to sprout their own.

This made me so excited to start but it’s a bit too early for my zone. However I have a plan written out and I can get my supplies together now! I will be starting tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, zinnias and some herbs indoors. Cold tolerant veggies I start outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. Can’t wait, great video!!

We are in North Central Colorado and still have between 12 - 14 weeks before we can plant our gardens here. We have even been known to have one last snowfall on June 1st. So it will be at least another six weeks before we will be starting our seeds in the house. My problem is that we are moving in mid-May to Central Ohio and their season is so different than ours is here. My husband has gone ahead to start his new job and get us a home and will be far to busy to get our garden set up. We have pretty much decided that I may go ahead and start some of our cold weather crops here (especially lettuce) and at some point fly there and begin the gardening there. It is going to be madness at first, but I am determined to have my garden this year. I really need to can a ton of tomato products and we are down to our last two jars of green beans. Not to mention all of our pepper products have been used up for weeks now. So unless I want to spend a ton of money at Farmers Markets this year (which isn't an option) I really need to get my garden planted on time. I imagine I will need a lot of prayers this time around... Happy Gardening and Harvesting everyone.
