700 days sober today, without AA

They said I could NEVER do it. They said I'd NEVER get sober. (And certainly not without AA)! GASP!

2 years ago today, on my son's 5th birthday, I woke up from a blackout and with a black eye and not a lot of memories. I was not turning out to be the mommy my little boy deserved and it was not the picture-perfect birthday memory you'd expect, right? Although it was NOT my first blackout or black eye from drinking, it WAS a wake-up call, a moment of reckoning. My mother died at 54 from cirrhosis of the liver and I could see I was well on my way there too.

In that instant, I was overwhelmed with emotions - shame, guilt, and a profound realization that I needed to change my life. I had known for close to a decade but it felt more real this time. My little guy deserved better. He deserved a mom who was present, loving, and not held hostage by alcohol's grip. And honestly, I deserved a life free from the daily struggle of trying to find the bottom of a wine glass.

So, I made a promise to myself - break up with booze and find my way to living a life I loved. It wasn't easy. There were days when I doubted if I could do it, but I held on.

Today, I'm celebrating 700 days on this journey, and it's not just a number. It's a symbol of resilience, of choosing a different path. It's also a shoutout to this incredible tribe of ours - you all have been my rock ya'll!

Here's the deal - I'm on a MISSION to share my story, to show women that quitting doesn't have to be about labels or traditional recovery methods. It's about finding your own way and discovering the strength you didn't know you had.
