It's Superclod! | THE ERNIE KOVACS SHOW (1956)

Показать описание
In this comedy Classic TV moment, “Television’s Original Genius,” Ernie Kovacs takes on the superhero genre with his parody SUPERCLOD (1956), a direct jab at the popular syndicated series ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN (1952-1958). Edie Adams also stars, as Lois to Kovacs’ Clark Bent.

A comedian, actor, writer and conceptualist, Kovacs’ visually experimental comedic style was ground-breaking. He pushed the boundaries and broke down the ideas and formats that were just beginning to take root in the newly dominant broadcast medium.

The year is 1956, Marshalls is now a thing, Jersey Mike's is taking hold on the east coast and television has replaced radio as the dominant form of entertainment in American homes.

Ernie Kovacs was an early genius, sadly almost forgotten nowadays.

I still love Ernie Kovacs as much as I did in the fifties. He’s my favorite comedian and always will be.

This guy was ahead of his time . I'm amazed what he could do with a limited budget

Not just a genius...but highly influential throughout out the ages, and development of TV comedy.
Everyone from Carol Burnett & Laugh-In, to Late Night hosts & comedians, to SNL & TikTok video creators owes him a debt.

MAD magazine on TV. Whatta great concept - Ernie K invented it decades before it really came to pass.

I used to watch him on PBS back in the 1970’s. It was both odd and entertaining, and I imagined what it looked like to people when it first aired on TV. 📺

The Golden Age of Television, friends. But if you don't know him, Ernie grows on you. Find his performance as a character named Eugene in an extended TV sketch.

Mad Comics did a parody on Superman a couple years before this show and used the name “Clark Bent”

Lots of people thought Ernie Kovacs was funny. Sadly, this skit doesn't showcase his so-called talent.

Pass.

I use to watch the Kovacs shows back when TV was in it’s infancy. And as a 10 year old I thought they were funny. But seeing them now all I can say is that the writers should have been put back on the street corner they found them on and their hands cuffed behind their backs so they could never write anything again. OMG THAT WAS BAD!!
