The key to cancellation in the public eye comes down to Consistency. Consistency in how a person portrays his or herself to the public eye and the actions outside of the public sphere. A good example of this would be Joan Rivers and Ellen DeGeneres. Joan Rivers was a nasty, vulgar critic of others and keep that same energy in all of her walks of life. Even behind the scenes. Ellen portrays herself as the nicest, most friendly host on her platform. However, behind the scenes she's "mean". Ellen is in no way cancelled, because she still has her show. Yet, she was very close to getting that show taken away from her. Donald Trump is "cancelled" on Twitter everyday. He's the president, because him being an asshole is consistent with his walks of life. The public is numb to Donald Trump's behavior, because he is what he has been. Cardi B is the same way. She has always been open with herself, being a stripper, to all the dirty deeds she's done when she was a Blood gang associate. She doesn't hide away from it. In fact her problem is sharing too much of what she has done.

It also isn't a good example of cancellation, because musicians, film directors, even Youtubers can't be truly cancelled unless the product they're putting out receives low engagement. You can't "cancel" Kanye if his albums are always going number one and his shoes keep selling. Tarantino can't be cancelled if his movies go number one. Pewdipie can't be canceled if his ad revenue and views are still number one.

In a capitalistic society, a famous person is only "cancelled" by the amount of attention and engagement he or she is getting behind the scenes. Actors, employees of entertainment conglomerates can be cancelled because, they don't hold much power in the production means of their industry. They rely on others to put the spotlight on them. They need a new movie or show other wise attention and engagement with them is not there and people forget about them. That's when you are cancelled.

If you are an entertainer, comedian, musician and have an audience, be honest with them as much as Cardi B, Donald Trump, Simon Cowell etc.... Don't hide who you are, because if people find you engaging, the only thing you need to be is consistent. Jim Norton can't be "cancelled" for sleeping with Transgender women, because he is open with liking a ton of transgender women. For my final point, a person like R Kelly for legal reasons was not open with his desire to sleep with underaged women. However, IF he was open about it in the public sphere and in his music, his career would have been shorter, but his public image wouldn't be as tarnished. It instead would put the blame on us the audience, for continuing to cosign his behavior, which is something "we" the public will not accept. There are tons of bad people that make great music, entertainment, but we still watch and listen anyway. If that person bringing the entertainment is dishonest about the bad behavior it makes it look bad on that man or woman. However, if the entertainer is honest and we still listen and watch, who is at fault.

It's not cancellation if you make a big speech about it on a social media platform that's suppose to bring attention to things. The judge on who is cancelled or not, has always been the audience. We will still talk about Trump and Cardi B if they say these things we don't agree with. We will say he or she needs to be cancelled, but never have any of those people looked at themselves and said am I responsible for why so much of my attention is devoted to this "cancellation" but the person still lives in the public sphere everyday. Maybe those people like to cancel because, they ain't got shit else to do with themselves and its much more fun and easy to tweet, post, and talk about the cancellation, without actually putting in the effort to just not pay attention to that person.

My friends love talking about how bad Trump, R Kelly, Michael Jackson etc... are. They still listen, watch, post and talk about them instead of some real serious issues. It's Culture War popcorn. The government can rob all of us blind, because we don't wanna really go out there and make some real change the industries that perpetuate this "bad" behavior. If we can "cancel" a persons career, god know what we can do if that energy is put into issues that effect the 99%. Cause all this is 1% movie screen entertainment for us the bottom to talk about.

This was a long post, but I really think that the discussion of Cancel Culture was just scratching the surface in this video. There is a lot of human behavior that needs to be examined in how we cancel others but keep some. To say it is based on ethnicity, career fields, is shallow in comparison to the bigger implications of why the actions of cancel culture exist and how they hold us back from the real issues.

I'm gonna stop talking now. Charlie, Ben keep doing your thing. Hopefully you read this and maybe get an idea of what I'm trying to write.

Forgive me but isn't it the case that most black celebrities are more untouchable when it comes to cancel culture. To boot, they are officially allowed to say the N-word so it's not too much of a stretch from there to allow them to say a whole slew of normally "cancellable" offensive statements/ words. For instance some of the things Dave Chapelle or Samuel L jackson might say might not be equally permissible if said by their average white colleague.
