What’s in your beauty products? An EU project found that 6% of 4 500 cosmetics tested contained chemicals restricted by EU chemicals laws.

Based on national experience they were detected in products like hair conditioners, hair masks, lipliners, and eyeliners across all price ranges, including both expensive and inexpensive products.

The chemicals found were Perfluorononyl dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane (D5), Cyclotetrasiloxane (D4), Cyclomethicone, Perfluorooctylethyl triethoxysilane, and Perfluorononylethyl carboxydecyl PEG-10 dimethicone.

They can accumulate in the body and environment and impact health, including fertility and cancer risks. As a result, inspectors took measures to remove non-compliant products from the EU market.

Here’s how to protect yourself:

Check ingredients: Look for these chemicals on labels. If you find them, don’t buy or use the product.
Stay updated: See which products have been flagged on the EU Safety Gate.
