it clearly reminds me of Dual Universe. Where voxels can be shaped in a lot of ways.

The issue with SE could be that as combat hit box depends of the block shape. So it could lead to some kind of abuses, unexpected behaviors, performance losses, etc.

Its clear that Keen's philosophy is to start making things as simple as possible, then dig on complexity once concepts are proven efficient.

That said, I wont be surprised that voxel shaping eventually comes in, as it seems to be already supported by the RAGE2 engine.

EDIT: As a first issue, I was thinking about the nightmare of air leaking calculation with deformed blocks

I have been using this "mod/non mod" since it was uploaded. It helps with some builds but it is difficult to use as sometimes when the "modded" block merges with a vanilla block both will deform into a shape you do not want. It is possible to do good builds but very tricky.

Technically vanilla, but for all practical purposes even further removed from normal gameplay than just using a mod.

you can deform armor blocks whit the round block deformable variant, when this block merge whit another the result is a deformation, it was that way years ago, but the deformable round blocks are not so knowed by players

4:33 I thing first someone moder must made the dragable shapes and it must be very lagless compatible with base game, then it must made on main workshop page, and then talk to developers if they would add tahat on basegame, for better chance of adding that it should have page on KSH feedback forum, and that post should be liked to top feedback posts there, after then, developers add that in, otherwise they would be focus on different parts of game what are more wanted 😉

Okay, you clearly can't do ANY welding on the deformed blocks.(*) But what happens if they take damage?

(* Unless someone turned this into a mod and changed the behavior of the welder to be able to exclude intentionally deformed blocks.)
