Sports journalists need controversy for the sake of making programs interesting, but to me--and I daresay to most people who understand football--it was never even a debate. There have been many great goal scorers in football history, though arguably Ronaldo is among the best especially given his longevity. But Messi is one of a kind. Pele and Maradona come in close, but again, neither of them had the longevity Messi has. And what makes him even more special is his humility. If anyone could boast about his achievements, that would be him. Yet he never points to himself. This is because nobody understands better than him that at the end of the day, it's 11 against 11. His goal is never personal. It's always for the team to win. That is what makes him truly great.

Ronaldo was never close to messi. The hype was only because of the rivarly of barca and real madrid. Messi on one side as the best player in the world, and on the another side very good player in real madrid who wanted to become the best one. The fans made this hype, but there is no comparasion between this two guys.
Messi was always on the another level, and he was with 26 already the best ever by mile (4 ballon dors) (3 champions leaguel) (92 goals in one year)
And then he won another 3 Ballon dors more and last year the world cup too, but the most important thing is the way messi won all of this. Just another level, playstation level. Unreal.

Then the nationals. The game against Sweden...hat-trick against Spain in the World Cup.
The Euro final Portugal won, where he almost managed it alongside F.Santos.
I think I will never see another player with as much commitment and flair as Cristiano.
