I had a nun in first grade who threatened to make me eat my big red pencil if I she saw me biting my pencil one more time. Well, she did see me bite my pencil one more time and made me stand in the front of the class and actually eat bits of the pencil. I can feel myself get small and frightened as I type this. I’m 73 and finally processing some of the abuse that happened to me.

No longer suppressing my trauma and emotions and learning to release and cope with what I can't change has been helpful in healing my life long wounds.

One thing to remember. Even with the healing of trauma, take note, that it never disappears. However, if healing is there, trauma maybe tolerated and regulated.

I was taught as a child that you do not talk unless first spoken to.
At 6 or 7 we were at a all you can eat restaurant. I had to pee so bad but was terrified to speak so I wet myself. My step-dad made me take all my cloths off in that restaurant full of people and wear my underwear over my face.
My mother and grandmother sat there and said nothing...at 68 now, I can still feel that shame and humiliation.
