Hawk Rescued by Deputies After Being Strangled By Snake

A hawk was able to fly away freely after nearly being estranged from a snake wrapped around its neck. Deputies in Gainesville, Florida, were called to the scene to assist. On bodycam video, you can see a deputy wear protective gloves and use his baton to get the snake off of the bird. He helps unwind the snake from around the hawk’s neck. That hawk probably tried to make a meal out of the snake and got in over its head. Same thing happened to me the last time I underestimated Taco Bell.

Normally Id be annoyed at interfering with a predators meal. However considering the size of thay snake, there is no chance it could eat that hawk. Even if it COULD it wouldnt be able to move afterward and get run over in the middle of the road. What likely happened is that Hawk tried to swoop in and grab the snake for its meal, but grabbed it by its tail instead of its center leaving the snake enough room to wrap itself around the Hawk. Therefore Im ok with thos rescue as the death would have served no purpose.

The hawk tried to eat the snake. The snake fought back and lived. The hawk is the villain here if you want to make this a Disney movie. But it's just 2 animals trying to survive. Neither is a villain here. Also, frick the guy for throwing the snake for absolutly no reason. If he did that to a 'cute' animal there would be riots and accusations of animal abuse. Because that is animal abuse. He probably broke multiple ribs throwing it onto concrete like that.

Honestly I'm all for letting nature be nature but this was the correct call. Snake was likely taken as prey by the hawk but managed to get around the neck by chance in defense.

Neither animal needed to die here. They both play an important role in the eco system. Snake won its life, hawk learned it needs to kill its food first lol
