I’m not even a reader myself. Had my first bad depression last year and thought it was all my fault. In retrospect it was kind of triggered as a consequence of cen. Got through that time, was not severely depressed anymore but I felt like there was still something wrong with me. It’s like you said in the book ‘it feels like i am an outsider of my own life looking in’.
I’m a college student so I can’t really afford therapy and since I never learned how to establish that emotional connection with anyone and I felt like I had a lot I had to get off my chest I went on reddit and just started telling how I feel. Then I stumbled across a subreddit about emotional neglect, often referencing your book so I thought I might give it a go because the name itself already kind of resonated with me.
And let me tell you it’s like reading my own story, like there is finally someone understanding what I experienced, telling me what I should have received as a child but never did. At the end of the book I started crying because it felt like a big stone was lifted off my chest.
I can’t thank you enough. I have a lot of hope for my future now and will start implementing the steps to combat cen.

Looking forward to checking into this new book of yours. I had a deep concern though about the Running on empty book. I have been reading a few chapters and really enjoying it. My deep concern is not seeing a story about divorced parents and having a (specific story example) that relates to children that have those experiences with divorced parents. There is a grieving loss of a parent story scenario but (no story) for the experience of being trapped in the divorced parents experience.

So when exactly are you considered at least midly to severely neglected on the CEN scale ? Because everyone is, to some degree, as no parent is perfect. What is considered as clinically CEN that can cause lot of trouble untreated according to your research ? Tho I'm skeptical I'm tremendously thankful for your pieces of work I did stumbled upon in the form of blogs, so thanks !

how much of an impact does living with an alcoholic presently have on your emotional state? I would say if you are applying strategies without addiction would be fine, but isn't that a game changer? How do you improve your relationship if your husband is not clear minded enough to buy into your latest self help book?
