What Do Giraffes Eat? | Facts About Giraffes | Animal Facts for Kids | Science Facts For Kids

Giraffes are very tall animals with long necks. They live in Africa, where they roam the savannah, a place full of grasses, shrubs, and trees. The giraffe's favourite meal is the leaves from acacia trees. Acacia leaves are way up high in the sky, but that's no problem for giraffes because they have long necks and even longer tongues, which can reach up to 45cm long!

These leaves are not easy to eat because they have thorns, but the giraffe's tongue is tough and can handle them. Giraffes also eat fruits and flowers from other trees and plants, and sometimes they will eat grass. They get most of their water from the plants they eat, but they will drink from a water hole if they find one.

Even though giraffes eat a lot - up to 45kg a day - they have a special stomach that can get all the nutrients they need from plants. This special stomach has four parts and is very good at breaking down the tough plant material. It's part of what makes giraffes so unique and amazing!
