St Gregory of Nyssa refuted John of Damascus’ man-horse analogy:

"Something is distinguished from something else either by essence or by hypostasis or by both essence and hypostasis, and thus Man is distinguished from horse by essence, whereas Paul is distinguished from Peter by hypostasis, and in addition the specific human hypostasis is distinguished by both essence and hypostasis from the specific hypostasis of the horse."
St. Gregory of Nyssa, Ad Graecas

So, who is this "son of Nestorius" that he speaks of? Clearly, it is the author himself. Congratulations Johnny, through your sophistry, you have merited the same destiny as your master Nestorius. Nestorius, you have received your pupil in the worship of a Tetrad. Departed are your corrupt natures from the Good Shepherd, Who keeps His flock believing aright.

You don't see the difference?

The Nestorian view according to John is two natures, two wills, two activities, TWO HYPOSTASES, TWO SONSHIPS, TWO DIGNITIES, TWO PERSONS and TWO SONS. (the last one implied but not affirmed).

The 'Chalcedonian' doesn't have two hypostases, two sonships, two dignities, two persons, two sons.

If you don't see that you are DISHONEST. If you don't consider the views different it's ok but it is different for those who hold these views which is what matters in practice.

Next video please. Maybe consider more short videos that showcase quotes from the fathers (Sts Athanasius, Basil, Gregory Theologian, Cyril, Chrysostom, Severus). And of course more on the Chalcedonian fallacies. We're hungry!!

Syriac catholic hir and I think Christology is really complicated thing. There is no separation or mixing in Christ is what everyone should believe in. The definition of hypostasis, person and physis alway changed thru time. We understand Cyril with physis meaning a particular because that’s was the definition of it at that time. Today hypostasis is referred to as a particular. Everyone should believe in unity of the natures to produce one action. The Chalcedonian council speaks of Christ in the mind and in our minds he is 2 with 2 categories of attributes and you confirm that because you say his nature is composite. St. Athanatius explained to the Arians that Jesus saying he didn’t know the hour comes from his human nature and is of his human attribute of ignorance clearly splitting Jesus his natures in to 2. I cam to conclusion that our Christology really don’t contradict but are complementary. What you express as one nature of Christ I express as one action of Christ. I just think our language to be correct because I trust in the papacy first of all and secondly how can there be one nature without mixing. Either there is no real union and you call his natures one nature because they unite to make one action or you mix them in to one nature or maybe there comes a new nature just as you would make 6+7=13 which 13 would be a new number. If it’s the first one then I don’t think our beliefs contradict but our language would be more helpful to understand why Jesus is acting how he does when it comes to some verses. Please help me out thanks 🙏

I have a question and I mean this in no harm, but I recently saw that you guys venerate Saint Benedict, who is a post-chalcedon schism saint, so he probably was a dyophysite, What is the OO Churches standpoint on Saints from other Churches/Communions?

Clearly you’re taking him out of context, misinterpreting and misunderstanding him, and you even cite a writing from “John of Damascus On the Faith against the Nestorians”.

Saint John of Damascus believes in One Hypostasis and Two Natures of Christ, so he cannot be a Nestorian.

“For the two natures are one Christ, and the one Christ is two natures. Wherefore one hypostasis was not divided into two hypostases.” - St. John of Damascus, An Exposition of the Orthodox Faith, Book III.

Whilst as an Orthodox Christian I consider this blasphemy and heresy, I have to confess it is somewhat refreshing to see Severians that actually believe what their (post Chalcedon) saints say and aren't just swept up in the wave of ecumenism engulfing all of us. If we actually believe there are legitimate differences between us we can have an actual sensible conversation and debate. Trying to combine "we're all the same" and "we reject Chalcedon" just winds up going in circles and in a spirit that I believe neither of us view as being salvivic.

Beautiful explanation my brother in Christ

Not sure if this proves he’s a Nestorian. Fr. VC Samuel seems to show the opposite that since he insists Christ is one hypostasis with the humanity as having no hypostasic characteristics then this logically leads to a form of docetism.
