Hi,
we say "gochisousama deshita" every day. Personally, I say "gochisousama deshita" when I leave some restaurants as well. It's a "thank you" to chefs. :)

This is my favourite Channle to learn on, and I already started learning and I can say one sentence, Hajimemashite, watashiwa Sarah desu, Yoroshiku ongai shimasu.

I went to Japan to visit a friend of mine, and he taught me the proper way(s) to eat sushi, and all of the rules that go along with it. It's part of the "precision" in everything that their culture is known for, though I find it excessive.

When my Japanese friend came to the U.S. a few months later, I developed an intricate series of rules that must be followed in order to eat a slice of pizza "properly", just to f--k with him. It was a lot of fun.

Yes, that's true: you can't pass food from chopsticks to chopstics.
The origin of this "taboo" is in what people used do at funeral (actually, after cremation).

It's polite and shows respects to people who served your food.
We say it even when eating with your family at home. It just feels better than just starting to eat without saying a word!

Kaori-san ate gunkan maki, also known as battleship maki. It's nori wrapped around the sides of the sushi rice with topping -- in this case, Ikura or fish eggs. She then used the gnari, or pickled ginger, to transfer her soyu sause on the gunkan. Delicious, huh?
