I don't get it why hurt a homeless if the cop was not in danger

If you're partner was walking towards him and he was unaware of the knife being drawn regardless if he was gonna drop it or not. Would you let him potentially be stabbed? It's clear that Steve was backing away but regardless he pulled a weapon that's a bad move no matter who you are or who you're interacting with, if Steve was so brazen to pull that with an officer it's not out the realm of discussion to mention he might've done that to multiple normal people crossing him. With a heavy heart for Steve and his family I want to mention he also was not getting the treatment he may have needed to avoid his death, @Allan Busby in the comments mentioned he knew Steve and claims quote "Where was the helping hand? A gun is not the solution to every situation. I'm very angry at the man who shot Steve. You should be ashamed! You should be held liable for the damages and suffering you caused!". Maybe Steve's or Allan's family who clearly tossed him aside should also be held liable for elder abuse, where was Steve's helping hand before this incident I'm not placing sole blame on the family or the officers involved. It was a of collective poor decisions prior to this incident that let to his very preventable death.

If Steve was not cast aside by society this would have never happened, don't make this a sole blame on the officers. If you want to be mad at the officers you also need to be mad at the family who threw him off to the side without any support and then claims they need to be paid. Our homeless here aren't and weren't all mad in a literal sense, the sleep deprivation that comes with being homeless will scientifically drive anyone to develop a mental illness at some point. Please don't scape goat the officers and blame the real reason this stuff happens so much. The lack of programs that actually get these people the help they need and the lack of awareness of what they have to go through on a daily basis.

Can't believe they Shot Steve. I am divorced from Steve's sister for some time and knew him. I'm sorry to see He is in such distress and homeless. He was never violent when I knew him years ago. I dont believe he is a Volant person now.. He was a kind loving very nice family man. And if not for his down and out circumstances would Still be that person. It could happen to any of us. Think about that. Where was the helping hand? A gun is not the solution to every situation. I'm very angry at the man who shot Steve. You should be ashamed! You should be held liable for the damages and suffering you caused!

That cop has been itching to use his weapon since BEFORE he graduated from the academy. It's no fun to carry a weapon that you never get to use. Isn't that why bullied peoppe become cops? He got dressed that day and subconsciously hoped that he would finally get to see what it was like to use this weapon he's been carrying and never gets to use and this was his chance. This cop needs to be charged for murder.

Advocacy for the quality of life? That would be comical if it wasn't so tragic. Quality of life? Sorry "officer" but first you have to value life to be concerned with the quality of it

This is just Sicking. Looks like police are trained to do exactly what they have been doing.

Why do treat our homeless so terrible. Having the mindset of helping not arresting can avoid confrontations like this. Im not disputing the the shooting but how can there be any clear communication when a homeless person who may have mental issues is being hassled for being homeless.

Very concerning! Guy was backing off and was non threatening! Police need more training. What happened to drop the knife? Guy was dropping knife in half a second. Sickening seeing an officer shoot in one second without giving person anytime to comply.

“Where was the threat?” In his hand, he was holding a knife.

At the least, the homeless guy should receive a settlement if not the police officer is fired or criminally charged.

The routine: step 1 outrage. step 2 cop is doing his job, everything is up to standard. step 3 outrage. step 4 city buyout. step 5 another.

The threat was when he pulled a kitchen knife from his pants...

$100. says our county DA calls it a justified shooting. Another SDPD homicide with disgustingly rife impunity. That is after all, SDPD tradition.

I agree. That officer should have waited to see what that man was going to do with that knife. Not like he is Bruce Lee. It actually looked like he was about to toss it on the ground.
