Extreme heat has engulfed the UK and much of Europe amid weather conditions being blamed on climate change. Britain issued its first weather-related “red warning” on July 18, 2022, as temperatures reached 38.1°Celsius (100.6°F) on the hottest day so far in 2022. Rising temperatures forced flight cancellations at Luton Airport after parts of its runway melted, while some hospitals had to cancel surgeries when operating theatres became too hot. Elsewhere in Europe, major cities in western France, including Nantes and Brest, hit new records as wildfires raged in Spain and France.

For someone that live in Asia specifically Malaysia, even I felt the abnormally high temperature cause of the heatwave coming although our season are almost constantly summer every year. I cannot imagined the heatwave that the European countries have to felt since their structure was built to retains heat instead of releasing it. Wherever you’re come from, don’t forget to stay hydrated folks.

bless all the firefighters that endure the heat from the fire as well as the already sweltering temperature :(

For those that are not used to such hot weather, use an umbrella as much as you could when you are outside. Put your feet in water when you get home and stay hydrated. If you can just avoid going out. Coming from a country that is used to this weather and temp, I know how unbearable it can be.

At the moment in China we’re having 41/42 degree days. Coming from Africa I didn’t think I’d have an issue with heat here but the extreme humidity has the actual temperature feeling like 47/48 degrees and it’s absolutely terrible. Feeling bad for the UK because they’re completely not accustomed to high temperatures like that. Praying for everyone’s safety.

us from southeast asia are already used to weathers like this but i understand the challenge because we’re also not used to cold weathers that usually is present to western countries like these. everyone, wherever you are, please keep safe!

For all these people in the comments saying the heatwave the UK is going through is nothing, the UK is not equipped for extreme heat like this which is what makes it such a bg deal. Some school have had to close, places are catching fire, and there is no preninstalled AC in most places

We experienced that too in the last 2 years, summer heat is hotter on some places, there's even a time where all -ber months is hot and humid which is supposed to be cold season but isn't.

No matter how much dramatization of the media, global climate talks, weather symposiums, blah blah blah. Almost little to none has been done to counter climate change. Governments are still at the mercy of Big businesses such as the petroleum companies, mining companies, logging companies, etc. because they are major contributors to the economy. And these companies couldn't care less about climate change

All the while in Sydney it has been raining for most of the year. I am practically malfunctioning due to the unusual cold temperatures. It never gets this cold here in the eastern suburbs. I can not imagine how difficult it must be for people who are used to the colder climates to be placed in such temperatures. I, for one can not wait for 30° summer days. It is truly terrible that our planet has become this unpredictable mess.

as a canadian, i live in bc and we had a heatwave, but since I'm used to a hotter climate cause i occasionally visit my parent's hometown in southeast Asia (Philippines) which has a hot climate, i'll tell you how to minimize the heat at least!

1. get a duvet cover, go inside of it and get a fan blowing it inside of it so it's nice and cool while you're hiding inside (do this indoors ofc outdoors is not gonna work)
2. try to block sunlight as the sun rays will legit go inside ur home and become an oven
3. use an umbrella outside
4. spray yourself w/ water
5. make sure your window air conditioners are WELL FITTED.
6. put foil on ur windows as it will reflect rather than absorbing the sun
7. LIGHT CLOTHING!!
8. STAY HYDRATED!!
9. EAT FOODS WITH WATER!!

Hope the UK people stay hydrated and safe. For me, its look bearable but of course that because I am used to hot climate.

Despite this, nobody in power is gonna pay more attention to the climate crisis and this is not only a European phenomenon. Asia has also suffered heatwaves at the same point.

We, Singaporeans went through 29 to 32 degrees all year round. We are used to hot and humid weather. But for countries who never experience hot humid weather will be horrible. I hope they are ok and always stay hydrated.. 😔

Im from the Philippines which is hot even in Rainy Seasons, what I do when it is super hot.
1. Stay hydrated ( preferably cool or cold water)
2. Always use sunscreen and umbrella when outside
3. Stay indoors as possible
4. When indoors use electric fans or just open windows.
5. Take a bath
Just add more tips

Its so hot here in Philippines too since we are so close to equator, but i wasnt expecting britain to reach 38.1C despite being on the northern part of the earth which is quiet cold, im just happy we are surrounded by oceans thats why we dont suffer so much from heat and britain is also surrounded by ocean, if you look at philippines weather forecast it rains here almost everyday so thats why its not so hot temperature here even though we are in equator.

people comparing the temperatures of diff countries dont understand that europe's infrastructures were built to keep the heat IN bc of their cooler climate

And here in parts of BC Canada, it's between 14-28 celcius, usually cooler. While that sounds great, it is very unusual for this time of year. Last year we also had a heatwave, so harsh that it burned the head of many plants to a crisp. Our winter was so much harsher than before that some plants that survived for decades couldn't make it this time around. Expect food crops to suffer year after year and food inflation to continue soaring in the coming years.

Strange how us Brits pay big money to holiday in places abroad with these hot temperatures yet wilt when we experience the same at home.
