Reward vs Bribe

The commonality between bribes and rewards is that they're both used to motivate a child to do something in return. 

The key difference is that bribes are given during the middle of negative behavior, whereas a reward is given contingent on the desired behavior.

* Bribes, the child is in control.
* Bribes teach children that they will be rewarded for acting out. They are more likely to act out in the future because they were rewarded for it.
* Bribes create a dependence on the reward and develop negative habits.

* Rewards, the parent is in control.
* Rewards are a pre-planned incentive for doing a good job. They are more likely to perform the desired behavior in the future to obtain rewards.
* Rewards are used to develop positive habits.
