I really liked the idea of looking at reference pictures of art styles you like. The way you explained that this works because they help you see the detail that is important. You're not copying the image itself, but that artist's filter on reality that creates the style. Really nice point!

Cool video ! I think your art is getting there :)
If you want to push it to the next level, I would recommend to learn how to put some variation in your line thickness. In the the theory (at least, for beginner, it's a good rule), when a detail overlapse, or when a side of a object is in the shadow, the line should be thicker. Some artist would surline the contour of the whole object. It will depend of your style. By doing this, you add variation in your artwork, and it make it more interesting.

If you look at Klei artworks (Don't starve or any of their game) they have those lines variation.

I would avoid using airbrush effect, as it make a art look amateurish. Using sharp brush is a good practice (no smooth edge, no texture) when we learn. If you want to create a gradient effect to blend 2 colors, the finget tool is great for this, but it's a bit an advanced concept to make it look great ^^

Too improve your shape language, do study of ref pictures, or go outside, and just draw what you see, by ONLY using the lasso tool, or the select tool (rectangle), that you fill with constant colors. If you practice on a regular basis, 1-2 per day, you should notice an improvement in you art (in your shaping language, composition, colors theory, and ability to chose wich details are important or not).

But to be honest, keep it chill, yes art takes a long time to master, your in a good way tho ! One step at a time !

I am looking forward to see your progress :)

Those were some very good tips. Especially the one about texture brushes. That seems like a great way to easily make my drawings more appealing. Thanks a lot! :)
