You should do a follow up on this switch with current firmware.

Chris, thank you for another interesting video. I do genuinely struggle to understand the target audience for this switch. The only compelling difference between this switch and the 16XG is the POE++ functionality. However, what use case can you think of the combination of 10Gbit and POE++. The examples you referenced in your video are almost all 1Gbit solutions, like cameras, most switches, etc. If you decide to go with 10Gbit then please use it to drive appropriate hardware that can benefit from 10Gbit.

I assume that typical users looking for 10Gbit wired ethernet have a need for more than 6 hard wired ports. So they'd only having 6 ports means they will need to make choices which devices to hardwire. Alternatively, they would use a second switch (connected via SFP+ or SFP) to handle all hardware requiring some form of POE over a 1 Gbit connection.

In other words, typical users will benefit from the 16XG in combination with another POE switch (including affordable options such as the UniFi Switch 8 PoE 150W). So, I am at a loss to the positioning of this switch. I am curious to hearing your thoughts on the subject. Who is this switch for? I don't understand.

This would a great switch for my home. I have a Palo Alto 5050 with 4 X Ten GB interfaces as my Internet gateway.(Found it on EBAY for 80 dollars and got it working with some elbow greese) This switch would be great to get 1/2.5//5/10 Gpbs to each of my rooms, my server, and to the firewall and provide any type of POE I need. Just checked in between the couch and a few old popcorn kernels. Well, I have got a ways to go to afford $599 :(

The support for 1. 2.5. 5. And 10 Gbe is neat.

Love the fact you show how the “device” can be used with other hardware and how it could fit into different setups. 👍

Wow. This is cool. Definitely gonna look into getting a couple. I currently have a few dealerships trucked over fiber over a layer 2 connection. (fiber is tunneled under parking lots. hub and spoke). These would greatly improve the LAN speeds which seem to bottleneck on some old switches that are in place.

So what your saying is it can handle my YouTube browsing 😁

Thank you! Finally some quality review of UniFi XG 6POE. Did you measure power consumption? It will be interesting to see how much power on idle and load

One wonders what the power connector smells like when it's running fully loaded--melting PVC possibly? Never mind the connections inside the moulded plastic of the plug, the contact area on the outside of the plug is tiny. It has to pass 4A at 50V!

I would only ever use that socket for config on the bench. It may have nice specs, but I would be quite nervous about deploying it heavily PoE loaded, simply because those connectors were never intended to pass that much power. In a universe where Ohm's law IS a law, "getting away with it" is usually a temporary state of being.

Excellent timing Chris! I’m thinking about buying 3 of these

Best use I see for these would be an IDF distribution switch for a pocket of mGig access points.

How loud/quiet is it? Other than missing the noise level, this was very helpful to me. Thanks!

Chris Great video as always I wonder if Ubiquiti will make a rack mounting bracket for it?

I have the 10G 16 port switch without POE and use the power injector for my XG access points negotiated at 10G through the injector. This would be perfect for that.

Like the DC input but dont love external power brick.

This thing is bonkers. I wouldn't be surprised if a UDM-XG ever comes out, it will have this instead of 2 HDD bays.
