My plastic covers were broken too. I contacted them and then sent me new ones within a few days. Great video!

Just got one too, it is great. I got the combo pack with a 12 inch variable speed along with the drill press table included, it is the best deal out there. Idk why the variable speed function of these newer models is not more heavily advertised, it is fantastic.

Only negative that I noticed: The construction of the table is such that it is nearly impossible to use regular clamps to hold your work securely due to the ribs and recessed underside. I beat this by cutting 3 pie-like wedge shapes out of a 1x6 and using Gorilla all-purpose glue bonded them to the underneath side. This resulted in two parallel (upper and lower) surfaces and now C or quick adjusting clamps quite easily hold down any work which I wouldn't want to hold by hand.

Yeah, I've been looking at this for a while, was torn between 4212 10" variable speed and 4214 12" variable speed and 4210 10" 5 speed and for the same reasons you went with the 4214 is the same reason that I like it, first being able to change speed on the fly, without shutting it off and moving the belts and I like the very versatile table and of coarse the 5/8" chuck. You also said that the 4214 was there largest, it is not. It's their largest bench top drill press, but they have two floor models the 4225 variable speed 15" and the 4227 17" 12 speed. Anyway, I enjoyed your unboxing and review, I'll be looking at others as they come up. Thanks! 🖖😎

Many other models have this feature too, but this seems to be a great value.

Had mine for a year now. I mostly drill into metal or forstner bits into wood, so my speeds stay low, but I love being able to adjust this with a lever/lcd readout.
I recommend upgrading the chuck to a cheap JT33 keyless chuck. About $30 from the usual getting spot. In fact, do it before you install the factory chuck. Took me 20 minutes of foul-mouthed obscenities to get the old one off.

I could hear the surgeon who worked on your back yelling in the background don't lift that out of that box

The only big issue with a reeves drive is more parts to wear over time and the lack of low end speed (not an issue for any bits the avg joe would use.) That being said its just like any piece of equipment, it all depends on how well it was built. My philosophy has always been if I am going to buy a cheap too, I'm betting on the one with the least amount of moving parts. Loved the video tho. Looks like u have a great channel here

For those of us who only wanted a simple drill press and bought one with the 5 pulley design, they should make a retrofit kt/ package that does what this gives you.

CVTs were on mills and some high end drill presses long before they were on cars very handy for sure.

“It doesn’t seem have bad for a cheap Chuck”

It is. I own this drill press.

Could be helpful to let us know the minimum drill Diameter this 12" Wen can receive.
Also, can the plunger be adjusted to make it tighter, hence no play in it.
Thanks, nice unboxing. 👍

That variable speed is almost identical to the way the classic Shopsmith Mark V changes speed. How is she holding up?

i've been eyeing out either the ryobi or the WEN 4212. the ryobi (i have all their battery tools), it appears to have plastic pullies and lid. given the same price and higher AMPs, i think the WEN WINs

Video was on auto-play. I thought you were talking about boat engines! Then come back to a drill press video! lol!

I have the 4208 model. I replaced the motor with a treadmill motor with speed control. So much better than before.

Add in keyless chuck and it would be perfect!
