My mom stayed at home to care for us as we couldn't afford a babysitter. Dad left for work before sunrise and came home after dark almost every day. It was later in the week and my brother and I noticed we hadn't seen dad in a while. My brother says "Do you think dad died?" Shortly after that, dad pull into the driveway because the job site got rained out. We ran up to him yelling "Dad! You're alive!" He was confused, so we told him why we thought he might have been dead. Fast-forward about 10 years or so and I'm in my early 20s. We're burning brush and dad sits next to me with a 12-pack of beer. He recalls that day and says "You were too little to realize it then, but that hit me hard." He told me how he went to his boss the next day and told him about it and said he needed to rethink his work schedule. I do remember having dad around more often in the evenings after school after that. He worked so hard to care for us all. RIP dad, I love you.

my father was a doctor and when I was turning three, he stayed home that whole day to celebrate my birthday with me and when he was put me to bed that night I asked him if he would come visit me again someday. my mom said he cried all night and he made a really tough decision and he changed his career so that he could stay home more. I think I was luckier than this girl, because my dad realized his family was more important than all the things he could give us financially. My Father by the way took very good care of us financially as well. he just found a different way of doing it that wouldn't require him being gone all the time.

The greatest present a father can gift his child is his presence.

Fathers are just as important in a child’s life as a Mother.
I told my husband that if his job takes him away from the family too much I want him to find a different one. I don’t need a big house, or fancy things, I just want him to be around and be a part of his daughters life. There will always be work to be done, but you only get to see your kids grow up once.

Nobody on their deathbed ever said: "I wish I worked harder and had less contact with my loved ones"..

I grew up in a poor household with two very present parents. We didn’t have luxuries but there was abundant love. That taught me to put people before material things. It’s what I want to teach and show my children as well.

That dam near made me tear up when she said, : "If I ate less would you stay home more". Wow. For a child to say something like that.. smh

I sold my business and raised my son from newborn to 5 yrs old. You will never get that time back with them at that age it's just literally priceless. We did everything together, daily walks, daily park trips, I couldn't imagine now not being with my son that much it would eat me alive. He's 6 now and I'll be upstairs watching a movie and sometimes feel I'm being selfish and turn it off and go play Legos for hours lol just can't get enough.

All luxury can't replace a husband. Nor A FATHER.

My dad was a marine and I used beg him to stay whenever we would pack for one of his long months-lengths trips. My mom asked me at some point to please stop doing that, that it made daddy sad.

I still have a lot of guilt and my heart hurts when I think about how much it hurt my dad hear me saying that, he was too trying to provide. I understood that, I appreciated that, I never loved him less but boy do I wish I have had more time with him when I was a kid. He missed pretty much every milestone. He would write me letters, call and give me all his attention when he was home but I was miserable when he wasn’t around.

I really really wish we would’ve had less but have him more.

I was a stay at home/work from home Dad and it made all the difference. I volunteered so much at my daughters school even the staff thought I worked there. My is 27 now and still writes me the most beautiful letters about how much she loves and appreciates me. She told me I was the “perfect” man which clearly I’m not but it means a lot to me that she thinks so.

It depends on the case. Mine prioritised time together and shared experiences. We were a bit tight financially but we have an incredible bond. My dad is now 85 and I do the same now that the roles are reversed.

My father was raised without a mother and an absent father. He never used as an excuse in life. He made my hot breakfast every morning. He made my lunch of fresh chicken salad or tuna. He made sure to cut off the crust. He made sure we knew family always came first. Our best friends were our cousins on both sides. He and my mother instilled morals and values. He was my hero. I miss him every day.
