It's been nearly 4 years since the M1 MacBook Air was released. In that time we've had a tonne of development not just to Apple silicon with the M2 and M3 chips, but to apps and programs in general. So, how does the M1 stack up in 2024? Is it still a good purchase? And what about all those controversies that popped up shortly after it's release?

Bought an M1 Air in 2020 and it has been absolutely flawless. It destroys my much newer Dell work laptop in every conceivable way:
Faster, quieter, longer battery life, more reliable, superior build quality, better keyboard/trackpad, louder and clearer speakers, higher quality display, usable standby time and sleep state, etc.

I can see myself using my M1 Air for another four years.

I know people who still use 2012 macbooks. Why should the m1 macbook air end its life? There is no significant performance difference between the new models. Continue to M1.

I'm a cse student and I bought it on 2023 October, exact 3 years after it's launch. I was on a relative budget but I wanted a mac for some features like portability, battery and performance. I can say that it's taken everything I've thrown at it including coding, some 3d rendering tests, some 1080p vid editing at 60fps, photo editing and hours of browsing. Still a great laptop for anyone who can spend a decent bit but can't pay for higher models, 10/10 would recommend.
I have the base model 8/256 gb m1 air

It was your original M1 MBA videos that convinced me to buy my very first Mac product. I've been very happy with my M1 MBA and have been following you ever since!

The M1 Air should be good until around 2027 or 2028.

The m1 air is getting a second wind with these crazy deals Walmart and Best Buy are running for it. $699 for the base model is an incredible deal, even if this laptop is 3+ years old. It’s still super fast, I’m a graphic designer and I can do all of my work on the base model m1 air with no issues. No need to spend way more on an m2 or m3 model.

I have one, and it's the best laptop I've ever owned. And I have no immediate need to upgrade it. I have 8 Gb RAM and 256 Gb of memory. Most everything I do is in the cloud, and this thing never lets me down. It never get hot, it feels as fast as my Mac Studio, and I love the wedge design. For what I do, this M1 MacBook Air should last me for years to come.

i have the M1 Macbook Pro, using it from Jan 2022, its been an amazing machine, i do a lot of android & iOS development on it, along with running PHPStorm & Other resource heavy JetBrains IDEs, and to my surprise, the M1 macbook pro catches up with all of that, never gave me an issue, never slowed down, its almost like with my so heavy workflow, i don't need to upgrade for a another 2-3 years.

Still using a base M1 MacBook Air that I got a few years back when they started getting nice discounts. I still use it daily and it's my favorite laptop ever. I have a near fully loaded 16" M2 Max MacBook Pro that my employer provides, yet I still find myself gravitating to the MBA. Also, and I know I'm the oddball out here, but I actually prefer the keyboard on the M1 Air over the Pro. I have 2.2 TB written to the SSD with swap essentially in constant use with the amount of tabs I keep open. Maximum battery capacity still reports 100% (though I highly doubt that). For what I use it for, I don't see myself upgrading anytime soon. By far the best laptop purchase I have ever made.

I bought my M1 Air in mid 2023. It's only on 23 cycles and pretty much 100% battery health because I mainly use it at home with an app that limits its charge level. The only issue I've run into with it is with the base 256GB storage and having to offload Logic Pro libraries onto an external SSD that was slower than the internal one until I upgraded to a Thunderbolt SSD enclosure that gives nearly the same performance as the internal drive.

I bought a M1 MBA yesterday at Walmart for $649. So far it’s working well for my needs. This is my first Mac ever. 😊

It's a truly splendid little machine. Bought mine lightly used, almost perfect condition for £450 @ 2 yrs old. For that money it's an absolute steal. I prefer its chassis with the classic MBA wedge - makes it feel much thinner than it is. If it just had slightly thinner bezels the M2 would be totally redundant IMO. I think they'll support it for longer than usual as it's Apple Silicon and can handle more, plus they've been selling them new for so long. Marvellous things

I still have a 2015 Macbook Air stuck on Monterey. Won’t sync the Photos anymore but it’s running better on Windows 10 now. I still use it when travelling and on vacation so I don’t have worry about expensive losing or breaking my M2. This means my wife’s M1 Air from 2020 will still have at least 5 years of life span.
