Peckham shop owner seen 'choking' woman accused of stealing

A shoplifting row sparked a protest after a beauty shop owner was filmed “choking” a woman he accused of stealing.

Sohail Sindho, 45, the proprietor of Peckham Hair and Cosmetics, in south London, was seen restraining the woman, who he claimed attempted to take items from his shop.

She became violent after he blocked her exit, he said.

Police said a woman had been arrested on suspicion of assault and later bailed.

A demonstration opposing violence against women and the black community was held outside the shop on Rye Lane on Tuesday, after footage of the incident emerged online.

Where is the beginning of the video? It`s almost as if the media are trying to manipulate this story into something it is not.
A man did not assault a woman. A shopkeeper used force in defending himself against a violent thief.

As a black man from London, I stand by the shop owner. Its embarrassing to stand by a criminal and we act as if the women is representing 'the black community' with her behaviour. We should stand against such embarrassing people and actions as a community, not make excuses for people. She don't need hair. She didn't just steal, she was filmed beating him repeatedly when confronted. She is a thug, and because of her the shop owner has to sell his shop and move with his family elsewhere. The telegraph should really revise its formulation of such headlines as they are heavily misleading yet easily debunkable, which puts another black dot on its already deteriorating image.

Showing this video is extremely unfair, the full video shows the woman viciously attacking the man and striking him over 15 times . I assume he could take no more abuse and, had to remove her from the store . 🙏🏽
