LESSON 22 - CONSTRUCT & CRITERION- RELATED VALIDITY :TYPES & METHODS OF DETERMINING THE TWO VALIDITY
Показать описание
In Lesson 21, we have introduced the concept of validity. We have defined validity as the usefulness or appropriateness of the inferences that a research makes. We have used a watch to explain the concept.
We have also said that, validity pertains to the results of the research and not the tool. There are three commonly types of validity that are applicable in social science research. These are content validity, construct validity and criterion-related validity. In lesson 21, we have explained content validity in details and the methods of determining content validity.
In this lesson, we shall continue with our discussion on validity where we look at the other two types of validity i.e. construct and criterion-related validity. In lesson 3, we defined a construct as an abstraction that is formed in the mind. Constructs are thus determined using theory (we defined a theory in lesson 1). We have two types of construct validity: convergent and discriminant validity.
Criterion-related validity is that type of validity that compares the results of a measure with another related measure. We have two types of criterion-related validity. This is predictive and concurrent validity. In this lesson, the method is explained followed by an explanation of the methods of determining the validity.
