I was walking the woods in MD a few weeks ago and saw lots of chestnut oak. Didn't exactly know what it was but figured it out with an app. MD appears to be loaded with a bunch of that timber. I don't think I have seen it here in MA but its probably around. Does it have similar qualities to red and white oak?

I have a question that you can answer if you want to (obviously don't have to if you don't want to or feel comfortable answering). I don't have a log splitting business and just find free logs on Facebook Marketplace for my firewood (haven't paid for wood in about 10 years). Do you pay for the wood when a tree company cuts a tree down? I ask because there's a tree company in my neighborhood almost daily cutting down trees (very wooded neighborhood) and I've been tempted to ask them to drop a load in my driveway but not sure of the best approach to ask without sounding like a freeloader. Any advice in sparking up that conversation?

Why wouldn't you saw that I to lumber? For the money you would get you could buy a whole trailer load of firewood.
