U.S. issued several warnings to India against the import of Russian oil, saying it was not in India's interest. India continued its energy imports from Russia and now U.S. has started taking a softer stance towards India. U.S. has now taken several opportunities to exclaim how it wishes to be India's 'best defence partner'. But why? Is Russia getting something from India that U.S. wants? Here’s a report by Shivan Chanana.

When India needed help Russia was there to help. It's not right to abandon a friend because of pressure from an outside source.

Some people don't understand one thing that India (large consumer) buying oil from Russia actually help other countries in maintaining oil prices. If India too doesn't buy oil from Russia, think what would happen? The demand would increase, and obviously prices go up in other countries. Some help you don't see directly. But when you connect the dots, It may visible.

As Indians, when it comes to trust, we Trust Russia more than America.
India works to better its economy. And yes, as Indians we wont forget what Russia did for us at desperate times of war... Therefore, 🇮🇳🤝🇷🇺

I had an opportunity to stay in a small town in north Russia for a year, and I have experienced how warm, loving and respectful the Russians.... young and old... were towards all the Indians staying there! Despite the language barrier, they would stop us in a store or on the road and strike a conversation, mentioning our leaders, ....our famous hindi movie songs from Raj Kapoor to SRK....they would sing in their own style the hindi songs to bring a smile on our faces...the treatment was Even old people standing in a queue would ask us to shift forward in the queue!! Clearly they showed us their love, respect and their trust!! That is a true genuine friendship among the people of both the countries... not just the leadership!! No one should even think of breaking these warm and strong bonds!! It's not going to happen!!

I just want to remind the 1971 incident when usa sent its 7th fleet in the Indian Ocean. Russia 🇷🇺 stood by India and made usa retreat. I'm from sri lanka but i support entirely india-Russia relationships becz india is doing according to its interests.

Yes, India is right in dealing with Russia as it has been our most reliable and trustworthy friend since the 1960s.

I don't think Russia is in any way fighting for India to be on its side, that is and has been the sovereign decision of India to maintain its relationship with Russia. It's the USA that is trying to decide or influence India's right to choose it's friends and enemies.

India has a massive population . A major part of money Indians spent for fossil fuels. A small lot of discount in fuels will make them feel relaxed. The support provided by Russia for weapons and the country's defense, has been genuine and never betraying.

Indians are not stupid. They remember what the USA did to India. And how it was Russia that came to India‘s aid. India doesn’t need the USA to meddle in Indian affairs.

Wion doesn't understand what is going on
1. Russia has been India's ally since long but only partner with USA.
2. Now USA wants India to become it's ally and leave Russia.
3. It's the USA trying to destroy India Russia relationship, and India should be weary

India's move towards self reliance in defence is the best approach.

India's move to be have independent view and support a multi polar view is also perfect and hope it leads by example for every other country. To not become a vassal state of any of the 3 axis.

USA should look into it's past how it treated India. For example look into India - Pakistan war of 1971. You will know who is best and time tested friend of India. It seems USA is not learning from it's past because just last month it once again sided with Pakistan and helped it by giving big amount of money for upgrading their fighter planes which Pakistan uses them against India. India should be very cautious about USA.

India and Russia is one true romance that has stood the test of time. Why allow any country, for that matter, to break such a friendship! I'm sure India knows how the US plays with countries.

They don't need to fight for India, everyone looks for a reliable friend, and India knows exactly who to choose between the two. Indians are wise people and know how to play their game

The minister of external affairs is on point 👍 Washington is no longer that bully it once was and besides that, most countries have mastered the art of throwing off sanctions
