And trust me, a lot of people (Including me) think that, while the Monarchy does give the UK more character and sense of old-world tradition, this old-world self-righteousness is keeping us behind from political and economic development and in today's world is, regretfully, a diversion for the press and a nice way to make profits rather than being truly relevant at all to our political structure.

As of now, the UK is nothing compared to say France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, the Nordic countries, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand etc. and is being overtaken by other countries such as Brazil and later India, Russia and even the Philippines.

In other words, for a modern country the UK with it's post industrial economy and it's outdated political system is far behind and so long as we fail to reform accordingly and adapt for the future generations we always will be.

Oh please, when Napolean took over France he didn't piss on France's cultural heritage and traditions.

The Monarchy is weak and little more than a figure head and the only thing that is worthwhile about it is the attention and money our country gains from materialistic promotions from said monarchy

It is fair to say that we are doing better financially as we have more exports per-capita, less public dept to GDP and our future is more predictable than the US'.

That said, the US will always have a bigger economy and as of the 20th century has and always has had a better infrastructure with more strength and stability, if the US gets superseded by China of course that will go to waste quickly.

As for the UK, when it does well it still manages to lag behind other nations in growth.
