No… No. This is why scientists can not be allowed to rule us. Hubris. Common sense and genius rarely co-exist comfortably, as is shown here. The Billy Bragg story shows it. Billy Bragg is an accomplished career musician and Eric is not remotely on his level in his field. Yet he thinks he should be on a stage with Billy Bragg. “I’m smart so I’m better at everything.” That’s like Billy walking into a lab and saying, “Let’s share a moon launch together.”
All you have to do is know ONE scientist, to know that they have valleys in their intelligence and personality as deep as their peaks are high. Yes we need highly intelligent, generative people. We also need laws to rein them in, because they’ll do everything they can, and they won’t stop to think about whether they should. There is a value in normality, in a proper balance with exceptionality.
“Making cool stuff and ignoring the critics” as a guiding principle can destroy everything. It’s radical. It’s foolish on it’s face. The general population has to be ready for paradigm shifts or dystopia can easily follow. As we’ve clearly seen.
Genius in some areas doesn’t preclude blind spots in others. It doesn’t preclude greed. It doesn’t preclude megalomania. It doesn’t preclude evil. These are still human beings with all the flaws of the species.
High IQ actually predisposes one to hubris, as we see in this interview, clear as day.

I've just realised, on many levels humour is a persons dignity protecting them from Trauma.

It's an evolved human Sense. To deny it's use is to cast someone closer to despair. A good laugh can remedy so, so much.

Eric ideas are really dangerous. It's scary to think that a group of people with borderline traits would be in charge of everything. Just because someone is exceptionally good at one thing doesn't mean they're good at everything else, or that they are moved by genuine interests. The people being mentioned have already a lot of power and among other things are involved with platforms like Facebook and Instagram that I would not consider the pinnacle of humanity.

IDK how the Weinsteins got so smart, But Brett is way more practical and realistic in his views. Eric is just out there.

Mr. Weinstein seems to be suggesting that the world unleash the "philosopher kings".

Wait. Dylan's "You Gotta Serve Somebody" isn't a statement about altruism.

This is really hilarious because Eric Weinstein is one of the people who does not answer his emails

Society is saying that someone who collects Birkin Bags is more successful than my raising my 3 kids in HUD Housing and food stamps who now are making big bucks following their bliss. Crazy Sh*t Man.
BTW: Birkin Bags range from $10K to $260K... and you need every rainbow color for your Closet Tour video.

Hey tell us more about these secret meetings. If they are only talking about helping people then why are they secret?

I’ll put it more simply: He is essentially describing a world in which people of average or low IQ have no say in what happens to the world they have to live in. That is not only foolish, it’s an outright evil way to run a society.
The smartest people need to be told “No.” MORE often than the average person, because their actions can be more consequential, and therefore more dangerous. Who built AI in the first place? People of average intelligence?

This was one of the more whacky interviews I've listened to. I wonder what Eric means by 'learning disabled '? Certainly the special needs kids I've worked with could not attain these dizzying heights of changing the world. They cannot even navigate day to day life unaided. And what is his obsession with transcending the bounds of earth? Is that really the pinnacle of human evolution when we can't even feed the people on earth or protect its children from abuse? He seems to live in an ivory tower. That said, he is an interesting and intelligent guy and anti-woke. His brother seems more practical and concerned with earthly matters. He also talks in a less convoluted way.

It seems to me if you serve, then someone is being served, which is exactly what we have already.. and the Dave Cameron, hug a hoody is madness.

The internet is Gutenburg 2.0 and it is almost completely wasted. The bosses want you to use it for pornography and shopping, not as an autodidact.

"Serve others", I mean, I get it, more people who use their vast wealth to just aid the needy like MrBeast instead of taking a plane to England to board a yacht to sail to Sweden to take a chopper to preach about the dangers of climate change and then have a dinner with curated meats and then back in the chopper to the yacht. But isn't the fact that people wanna do business with you and you're here complaint "noooo people are buying something from you, gimme that money". This is like Thomas Sowell asked once "what's your fair share of my money?".
