Moog Semi-Modular Comparison 2024: Labyrinth, Mother-32, & More (feat. Sarah Belle Reid)

Moog's family of semi-modular synthesizers is growing all the time! These instruments have proven to be powerful additions to many setups—and of course, they present a great value to musicians looking to get started with analog modular synthesizers altogether. But now that there are so many instruments...how do you know which one is right for you?

With the recent addition of Spectravox and Labyrinth to the Moog lineup, we reached out to artist/educator (and our friend!) @sarahbellereid to get her take on the entire Moog semi-modular family as a whole. In this video, Sarah walks through the key features, benefits, and differences between all of Moog's currently available desktop semi-modular synths: Mavis, Mother-32, DFAM, Subharmonicon, Labyrinth, and Spectravox all included.

Great vid! I know there are many possibilities, but which one would you use as the main master clock to sync all the others?

Great video. She explains everything so well. So good to see her using a SM58 instead of the usual SM7B, which saves users about £250.00 . I would recommend that she uses a pop shield though. Spectravox over the Labyrinth any day!

The crazy thing about all this stuff is that if you think of it in a eurorack context they're all great and they're all reasonably priced. But if you think of them as regular synths they're all overpriced and have a REALLY sketchy cramped interface. I wish they'd make a Sub 37 without a keyboard.
