Here’s something. I grew up with the Lara Croft games, and ALL her movie titles. Lara Croft cried when it mattered. Not almost every scene. To further give her true character, she was already a tough female that feminists could look up to. Why? Because she went after ancient ruins and legends without the need of a man’s approval, or a woman’s approval. She climbed mountains, glaciers, ruins, you name it she’s explored it. And her build was NOT light enough for a wind to knock down. She was muscular enough without looking jacked, but the muscles were more sinewy based, not bicep based. She also had NO SEXUAL preference, or if she did, she was most likely straight. We never really knew because she never had a real serious romance with anyone. There might have been hot steamy moments, but her mind always clicked back to ruins/treasures and secrets. This anime is basically shitting on the Lara we grew up with.

So this is the pattern I keep seeing:
Step 1: Yoink an established IP with an existing fan base.
Step 2: Change the character's personality and sexuality.
Step 3: Antagonize established fan base over their critique over changes to what established facts the fan base grew upon, and challenge them not to consume the product that now is not made for them.
Step 4: Complain about said fanbase not consuming product.
