I think you misunderstood. He confirmed what she said, i.e. that many companies will not allow you to receive the 401(k) match that the company offers unless you work there for a certain period of time.

Just to really underline it, you always have access and ownership to 100% of the money YOU put in to a 401k from your income, this is just about the company match. There are legal limits to how slow they can vest - you can look them up to make sure they are correct. Also, go ahead and ask for the 401k charter document now. You'll want that, especially if you change companies and ESPECIALLY if you take loans from your 401k - many require those to be paid back immediately and in full once you leave the company, even if you leave the money in the 401k.

I heard about this before and I always think that those mechanisms (that make this job hopping more attractive than staying in a company) are weird.
It's basically an economic risk to create a better environment for your staff 😅

10years vested at a 6% match, I was dumb in my 20s but making sure to max out that was the best thing I’ve done for myself. If times were normal I’d have house money ready but 60k ain’t getting nothing right now.

Companies still do matching schedules for 401k match, I thought that died out in the 1990s
