‘Master stroke’ move for Trump to invite Xi Jinping to inauguration

University of Sydney Political Scientist Simon Jackman has labelled Donald Trump’s decision to invite the Chinese President to his inauguration as a “master stroke”.

Smart move for Trump. It was likely taken as a nice gesture by Ping even with the decline. Working towards a positive relationship. It also shows Trump and America making an effort if things go south. Who the world blames is important and this helps the perception we aren’t the problem. There is now down side. Maybe even Ping wants a good relationship and will make it up to Trump and America in some other way. Why not throw an invite out there. If he shows he shows. Trump won either way. The action is what mattered. Not the response.
