I like that you brought up the trend of polished recordings in the past few years. I agree that it's really important to put feeling into your voice, I think that's going to touch people emotionally more than a technically perfect singer. Thanks for the tips!

Freya, this video and your podcast episode 031 has given me so much to think about. It's so common to try to sound like the singers you admire, and it's kind of expected from other people, too. So, it's somewhat frustrating sometimes. I will be truer to myself and to my own beautiful voice and just enjoy singing in my own voice. Thanks so very very much.

Great advice and direction. My voice does not "fit" a Pop sound (even though for years I have tried and tried to accomplish that) and am coming to terms with that. Thank you from the heart.

This was such a helpful topic. I do feel this, and I'd wonder to myself what I'm ultimately capable of sounding like. I enjoy a lot of music genres, one of them being musical theatre. Though I'd love to be able to belt big and sustain long notes, maybe that's never, ever going to happen, because if my voice were capable of that, I might have discovered it by now (or some semblance of it).

I remind myself of artists like Madonna, who could afford the best vocal training, yet despite her access to the best teachers and whatever amount of time she's spent training her voice, she's never going to sing like Whitney Houston or some Broadway beltress. That's okay because she's one of those artists who know her voice and range, and make the most of it with songs that have interesting and catchy melodies.

Though I'll continue to work on improving my singing ability, I'm grateful that I just absolutely LOOOOVE singing, just for myself. When I start singing, I'm immediately in the zone--it's such an amazing gift that I can enjoy something, even if it's not "perfect." I love your closing to every video about always keeping a song in our hearts. :) May we all sustain our love for singing throughout our lives, regardless of where we are in our vocal journey.
