Remarkable Engines: Oregon Pacific 1413

After a long amount of editing and gathering information, I have finally uploaded another long-awaited episode of Remarkable Engines. One of my friends asked me to do an episode on a GMD1, and after doing a bit of research on the class and looking for locomotives in the class which stood out, I couldn't help but notice this one locomotive which stood out with its red livery and being the only one of its kind on an American shortline. Many of these unique traits of the locomotive made it a great candidate to be covered in this series as its somewhat short but interesting histyory plays a large part in the story of the GMD1.

Excellent video! Unfortunately all the GMD-1s on CN are now retired, but I'm happy many avoided the scrapper's torch and were sent to shortlines such as the Oregon Pacific

Oh yeah I rode behind one of those locomotives when I last went to ORHF back in 2013.

As far as I know CN officially retired all of their GMD1s a couple of years ago. Any CN liveried ones still operating are no longer operated by them. This is just to the best of my knowledge. Also thanks for shouting out the NAR. The museum I work at has NAR GMD1 #302 "Chief Moostoos."

7:35 That's funny, I was just about to mention how 1444 was the one GMD1 that had been getting my attention lately, due to it having been one of the earliest engines known to harness the rare and unique Ekyrail E-Bell.

I'm gonna point this out but over in WA, There's a shortline that runs with three GP49s also known as CWW, Units being 2807, 2809 and 2806 (2806 being repaired as of today) They did also have 2802 but was sold to WRL, 2809 being all black, While 2807 keeps its pretty EX ARR paint scheme, and 2806 being black with a red nose and logo patch, 2807 and 2806 ran over in Ohio on the CCET railroad than being shipped off to WA, And 2807 is the only unit with ditch lights, I've been railfanning them for some time and I think would be a nice video for this series as these units are the last GP49 as the Trirail GP49 lost its ARR top lights and snow roof, I'm also sure that one GP49 was sold off to Mexico and became a 6 axle unit but I'm still unsure.

And again I made another long comment great
